You should see them make happy meals at the food source…

    MPG vs HTHS

Thanks… Can you say anything said here at BITOG is not generalization? IMO that statement is…. But every one has a view. There is not a black and white answer, just a move to the better. But to just look at HTHS without any other variable?

    MPG vs HTHS

Just less VII to shear. Not a big deal. I drive short trips and rarely get oil temps up.

    MPG vs HTHS

Instead of scraping the oil off which the oil control rings should do they hydroplane. There is a too thick point. Low tension piston rings? https://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/heavier-weight-oil/

Post a photo of your oil on dipstick (with miles)

Initially after changing to an oil with good detergent and dispersant package the oil color could look dark. After 2nd (3rd) OCI then should look cleaner. Thinking about my PUP on the second change +5 months here.

    MPG vs HTHS

My 2019 Miata runs 0w20 in winter, 5w20 in summer 2 OCI per year. Completely amateur opinion here, every one has a opinion. Once on the highway it is running hydrodynamic in the bearings at RPM. That means the only friction on the bearings has to do with oil viscosity. The other issue is piston...

SwRI testing of oils and rings

I learned a few things on this video. One being that friction and wear are two separate things. Apologize if this has already been posted as I do not follow this site. Looking forward to future videos from this source.

Engine Masters (MotorTrend) Tests Oil Viscosity (Thickies Rejoice!)

So… who uses GP-1 racing oil in their every day driver? Loaded with zinc and with a short oil change life. Can you compare and say it is a thick or thin discussion?

Engine Masters (MotorTrend) Tests Oil Viscosity (Thickies Rejoice!)

Dino test is the ultimate proof of better lubrication IMO. Why is an interpretation. Maybe there should be a timing chain wear sensor on modern engines. As far as rings maybe the engine when new should get a baseline compression test after break in. Then you can monitor the ring health. As far...

Recommend me the best for Miata

When I first bought my 2019 Miata I wanted to follow the OM closely. Mazda 0w20 was pretty expensive, I put Idemitsu Zepro with moly for the first change. That Idemitsu price went up and switched to TGMO due to the high moly. (dinuclear type moly) Later on with the help of this site found the...

Recommend me the best for Miata

My view is any quality oil at a 6 month OCI performs as well as the next. But at running temperature follow the operator’s manual for viscosity. In your case 0w20. Mexico’s oil viscosity recommendation is 10w30 and around the world there another viscosity as high as 10w50. Where you buy the car...

Recommend me the best for Miata

I have Red Line in my 2019 miata, but it’s MT-90 in the transmission. Got PUP 0w20 in now. If you change it every 6 months like I do cost of the oil is a factor to me.

    Mazda skyactiv specific oil filters

My second Miata… The first one a 2008, I used any flavor oil filter. This 2019 Miata Is a Skyactiv. I have stayed with OEM oil filters.

    Mazda skyactiv specific oil filters

The crankcase and intake vacuum are two different things. You have the oil change and filter change as variables with the filter being aftermarket.

In general I agree with you… Specifically the Skyactiv is unique. So…. You think the guy is a troll?

    Which grades have low NOACK?

Base oil quality. Less base oil evaporation, higher heat range.

How many times have you switched sides on the thick vs. thin debate?

Because an engine oil temp. is variable, RPM is variable, so the viscosity is variable and the MOFT is variable. Modern engines use modern engine bearings that control the MOFT tighter to use thinner oil. (in the hydrodynamic regime) The bearing shape and RPM has a lot to do with the oil wedge...

    Best 20K oil

OK but to check if the oil is used up the detergent/dispersant package, get a TBN done on your oil at your OCI. P.S. Blackstone is not the lab to do a TBN. Some like Polaris just calls it Base.
