    Five Euro Car Myths?

Having owned cars from MB, BMW and even a lone VW as well as an MGB if you want to include that, these cars are no more nor less trouble than anything from Asia or the US. Most of the loose talk about how awful Euro cars are to own comes from those who've either never owned one or who bought...

    Subaru Quality Strikes Again!!!

We have both '09 and '17 Foresters bought new and the air works well in both of them. The '09 has needed a couple of top-offs of R134 over the past couple of years, but we bought in in August '08, so I guess it's entitled to leak a little. Bear in mind that not a single part of the AC system...

    Fireworks and dogs

Our usually utterly fearless Great Pyrenees was reduced to cowering fear by the sound of fireworks. He'd run upstairs and cower in the bedroom that was as far back in the house as he could get. I'd sit on the floor in physical contact with him while reading The Economist or WSJ to him in dulcet...

    U.S. Gasoline Production

Thanks! This explains the rapid decline in prices that began in March as well as the equally rapid escalation in prices that followed along with the recent easing. The timeline depicted is appropriate in providing an explanation of the wild swings in price that we've seen over the past four months.

    Airline Fleet/Management in a crisis

Airbus can also afford to offer the A330 at a compelling price and as such it can be a great alternative to the B787 for which Boeing has to get more money although this also means that it is an alternative to the A350. For all but the longest routes, the A330 works just fine and we've found the...

Any Metal Music Fans Out There?

Metal was and is a very common mode and many bands did it now and then, even the Beatles. I enjoy the hard chords and the base and drums. I still listen to many tracks from when I was in my twenties, around forty years ago.

    old lawnmower service?

These things aren't real picky about oil, fuel or being stored wet or dry. Mixing oil is of no concern. I'd prefer the leftover 5W-40 but the amount this engine needs is less than a quart on a drain and the UK is typically not that hot a climate anyway. Don't overthink this as these are very...

    Airline Fleet/Management in a crisis

Well, the early 747 was also bought as a matter of vanity by a number of airlines with many quickly disposing of them, American and Delta being good examples of this, Airport upgrades were only really needed for airports that expected multiple A380 arrivals every day. For those seeing maybe...

    Airline Fleet/Management in a crisis

You make a very good point in that there will be plenty of serviceable gas turbines in the boneyards that could be repurposed. OTOH, there will be plenty of complete aircraft available as well as many now displaced pilots to crew them. A new LCC venture? Not so much in the single aisle realm...

There Will Be Blood – Peter Mertens, Former Head of Audi R&D: “We All Did Sleep”

Did anyone else think that this read like a rant or am I just being bloody-minded? I do wonder what the circumstances of the author's departure from VAG were. All cars have been rolling examples of application software for decades now. I suspect that the software required to integrate an EV with...

    2017 Forester

You'll be fine either way. I use the recommended 0W-20 in our '17 Forester with no issues to date and typically an M1 oil filter although I have used the Fram on it without issue. Oil changes are really easy on these cars and the recommended drain interval is ultra conservative.

    CRJ-550

We've enjoyed every CRJ or ERJ leg we've ever flown. What's not to like in not having middle seats as you would in a 737 or A32X? These aircraft have also proven to be reliable and durable in service and they have provided both frequency and small city connectivity that would be economically...
