    Trucker Rates

Truck driving on a rock of the middle of the ocean is totally different from what I see on the mainland. I do local freight reefer so I get paid hourly whether I'm stuck in traffic or lumping pallets at a CS warehouse. GPS is great to get you where you at but not so great in routing or...

    '01 Toyota 4Runner 5VZ-FE V6, 250,000 miles-(Kirkland 5W30/5,000 miles UOA)

Impressive but that's nothing on a 5VZ-FE since they can run forever. Excellent engine to work on. Fixed one where the water pump seized up and snapped the timing belt. New parts later it still runs strong without a hiccup. Check if the radiator has been replaced recently or any recent coolant...

Can’t quiet down a new PS pump

I went through so much defective remans I rather bite the bullet and buy brand new. If the old pump isn't making noise but just leaking, you can buy a reseal kit for less than $20. The pump sits in the reservoir and is sealed with a large o-ring in front and 3 smaller ones in the back.

What are you working on today?

2010 Nissan Juke rear brake job. A bit rushed since I told my coworker 3-4 hours to complete. Didn't do full bed-in (akebono specifies no bed-in needed) and complete brake fluid change since it would push the completion time 6 hours.

    Low bridge

I swear all of the box truck drivers failing to see the warning don't have a CDL or half a brain cell. You don't need a CDL to drive a 26,000lb GVW 13'-6" tall 26' boxtruck but it pays to heed the clearance warnings.

    Driving addiction, hard to cure

Been doing it on company time and fuel. Driving a 26" boxtruck for 6-8 hours is actually enjoyable. 260hp Cummins, Allison auto and full air ride makes driving this thing a pleasure.

Towing with a half ton Torque converter lockup.

The bigger sisters the 2000 and 3000 series in Class 6 and 7 vehicles will lock up in first and in less than 10 mph and will stay locked thru the rest of the gears. Trans temp does not go above 170F even when fully loaded and without the need for an external tranmission cooler.

new laptops no longer have removable batteries?

On some cheaper laptops once the battery goes it's done for. On some older laptops it's much harder to obtain a new battery. Just replaced the battery on a Mid-2010 Macbook since health was showing 73% and was starting to balloon up (trackpad becomes difficult to press).

Introducing Personalized Avatars - POLICY on creation and use

Having the forum software use the first letter of your username as a default avatar is lame and it's bad enough that viewing avatars can't be disabled. Might as well put something cool.

    Permatex Brake Lubricant

Picked up some Permatex Silicone Ceramic Extreme Grease Parts Grease (dubbed Permatex Orange) and it ticked the boxes for a rubber compatible silicone grease. Looking to use it on a brake job for a Nissan Juke which has a rubber bushing on the caliper pins.

Why do auto parts stores not carry bolts needed for cars

Even big box hardware stores don't carry a lot of common automotive hardware. Had to go to a local hardware store to find them.

Dual Clutch Transmission vs. Conventional Automatic

Allison 6AT for the win in medium duty applications. Eaton tried to get in the medium duty market with their Procision DCT 7 speed but didn't gain popularity.

    WTB Brake Grease/Lubricant. Which one(s)?

I find that for some brake jobs you want to use two different greases. Even in the service manual OEMs will tell you use x grease on this, y grease on that. Petroleum type grease (anti-seize, green, black, purple) for exposed or metal to metal parts and silicone type grease (silglyde...

Eaton PS-386 is most likely a gear oil with that viscosity and used in Automated Manual Transmissions (AMT), not in torque converter automatic transmissions.

Poll: what'd you use in your WS-spec'd AT?

Performed 60,000mi interval changes using Toyota WS on a 04 Lexus L430 with 200,000 on original transmission. If WS gets super expensive (still cheaper at dealer) then we'll make the switch to Maxlife.

How often do you change your brakes and do you change pads and rotors at the same time?

I will try to save some money on the job by resurfacing rotors if aftermarket rotors are pricey or hard to get and still within spec after resurfacing. I push for new rotors with pad replacements whenver possible.
