Well, I just changed the 2 differentials and the transfer case for my recently-acquired 274k miles Toyota 4x4 Tundra. Very easy and enjoyable experience. The old gear oil in the rear was black as coal but flowed freely. A few tiny metal slivers on the magnetic drain plug. The transfer case...

I need to buy a whole lot of gear oil for my Toyota Tundra 4x4. Specs say I should use 75W-90, but I can get a great price on bulk by the gallon of 80W-90. Is this difference in viscosity significant enough to worry about? <i><b>PLEASE...real world experience and/or sound theory, not...

If my truck calls for 75W-90, would it harm it to put in 80W-90 instead? (It much significantly less expense and available in gallon containers where I shop.) If this is a significant difference, please let me know.

Excellent; thanks. I think I am going to do a full flush using standard-quality dino and not synthetic for this particular change. If the truck makes it another 30k, I will change it to synthetic at that time. Money's kind of tight now....

Gee Whiz -- I had no idea I'd stir up such a <b>lively </b>debate. If I buy my next batch of tires (or tyres if you will), I'll get the nitrogen treatment. I won't pay extra for it, though. Thanks again for all the great comments!

Well, they say that nitrogen doesn't expand and contract like ordinary air does. So tread wear may benefit. Also, no H2O in the tire either. Still, I'd like to hear from people who've had nitrogen in their tires for, say, 40,000 miles....

Much ado about nothing IMO

On paper, Nitrogen makes sense. But in practice...that's what I would like to know. I kinda wondered if it was just the "next thing" for dealers to make a massive profit by creating a need that really isn't there.
