Rolling Coal...a perpetual annoyance

First time I attended a drag meet I was sitting at the top of the staged area to the rear of the cars, in direct line of the pipes. That weekend there were a couple of Top Fuel guys over from your country. I'll never forget that... I'd do it again tomorrow.

Post Your Latest (Motorcycle) Oil Change!

GS850, with experimental fuel setup, chasing optimal settings and having a couple of dodgy detours on the way. Out: Comma 5w50 synth Racing Oil after it got punished for a couple hundred miles at 150degC - it looked and smelled slightly burnt when it came out. I'd not really believed the...

Wanted a crotch rocket and ended up with this...

Engine crash bars make the difference between getting up, cursing your luck and carrying on with your journey, or sitting forlornly waiting for a tow truck, then hunting for nearly unobtainable / very expensive end cases (depending on bike, of course). All my bikes have crash bars.

    Grease Gun Bulk Loading Methods

I have three grease guns on the wall. One of them is for peculiar fittings that I don't even recall what they were on - something I no longer own, probably. Last time I used one was at least two years ago and the last time I filled one was much longer back than that. However, in the past my...

    Anyone riding?

"Anyone riding?" Every week in the winter, the larder won't fill itself. Hate riding in the cold these days though, so it's just necessity. Spring onwards, that's different ; I take every chance I can to get out on the bike. This past year's been a bytch though; lockdowns left, right and centre...

Shell PCMO suitable for JASO MA2 application?

True. I've been using PCMOs in my bikes for decades and the only times I've replaced clutches were when they'd done well in excess of 100K miles. On examination, the plates were almost unworn, but a bit glazed. In all cases, there was no catastrophic slip, just a tendency to slip under applied...

Do any of you tow a trailer behind your motorcycle?

Built this trailer in '95 or so, been occasionally using it when and if I need to since then, towing it with a Suzuki GS850. Pay no attention to the doomsayers, if you need a trailer just get one (or build one). There's a Delphi forum relating to trailers, where you'll find all you ever wanted...

Pies: which ones do you love?

Mutton Pie, deep fried in lard, and put into a roll. Only some will know what I'm referring to.

    Dipetane, Anyone use this?

I used Techron first, then when I couldn't get any more I started using Dipetane. All I can say with any certainty is that Techron definitely caused my engines to run smoother and got rid of a load of internal carbon. Dipetane - all I can say about it is that when I fill up with fairly average...

Ethanol vs. Toluene vs. Xylene as Octane Boosters

Back when I was young, dumb and an impoverished chemical lab student, I ran my Vespa on a mix of toluene, xylene, aceteone, methanol and some pump petrol. Much to everyone's surprise I didn't hole a piston or shorten the life of the engine.

    Alternative oil filters

To the OP; fwiw, the Mann site is a useful resource for finding equivalents that might exist in your market. https://catalog.mann-filter.com/EU/eng/oenumbers That, coupled with the listings...

Have you ever dealt with an oil filter so tight that even hammer and screwdriver

Encountered it many times over the years, but always on cars where the filter was fitted by the PO or his gorilla. Only one had me slightly perplexed and that was because it just wouldn't go, even after banging the pointed screwdriver through it and giving it a heave. It was getting so mangled...

    Motorcycle oil change interval.....

I have a shed of older bikes, two of which (Suzuki GS850s) have been mine for nearly 30 years, and during the early years of ownership they were working hard. I routinely changed out the oil at 2K miles with whatever was available at the right price, avoiding the cheap cheap stuff. There is...

How often do you "floor" your vehicle?

Every time I'm out - my vehicle is a motorcycle and no journey is complete without a good blast to clear things out.

    Hate Windows 10

I'm running Mint with the XFCE desktop on an older machine with fairly low memory and a relatively slow processor, and it's doing just fine. For the past 18 months I'd been running Win10, and though I hated the flat appearance at first, after doing some tweaking with Windows Shell and other...
