Free lifetime oil change. FCP Euro.

Not that unexpected when E39 M5s are getting to be 20yr old cars. Only so much production space for mid-size companies like Lemfoerder. I recently replaced the front struts of my F30 340i and the Corteco top mounts had the embossed 'BMW' ground off with a dremel. Also the factory originals...

Mobil 1 FS 0w40 has bmw longlife 01 again

What don't you like about the Motul? My 6-cyl B58 feels like it enjoys it more than the LL-01 5w-40 that was in there previously, but the B58 is so smooth it's hard to tell.

Free lifetime oil change. FCP Euro.

Rein seems like a re-seller brand, kind of like Victor Reinz or Beck/Arnley - they roll up into CRP, the US importer for Pentosin products. In general their parts are good quality, and they have various sources. E.g. their lug bolts, gaskets, sump plugs, etc. are the same German OEM as the BMW...

Mobil 1 FS 0w40 has bmw longlife 01 again

I seems like Mobil 1 5w-30 ESP Euro is the new ticket. I currently have the equivalent Motul 5w-30 XClean+ in my sump, but the problem is the Motul 5 L bottle and 1L bottles don't fit well in the USPS Large flat rate box for returning to FCP euro. Which does diminish the return value when...

Interesting FCP Euro statement on BMW 0w-20

I changed oil today, went with Motul X-Clean+ 5w-30 in the B58. Seems to like it, the Pennzoil I dumped out of there seemed pretty tired.

Interesting FCP Euro statement on BMW 0w-20

ITT: people who think 0w-20 is going to grind down their bearings as they drive along 70mph highways and 25mph city streets.

Running 0w-20 STP SYN in bmw 340i (B58) do I need to change immediately?

You can put basically anything in a 2.5 5-cyl. My 2007 Rabbit lived on a diet of 0w-30 Castrol back in the day.

Running 0w-20 STP SYN in bmw 340i (B58) do I need to change immediately?

The TIS oil table is dated July 2020, so it's contemporary. B58 is listed as being able to use pretty much everything, although there are - outdated - caveats like LL-04 is not compatible with North American fuel. 0w-20 LL-17FE+ is the 'recommended' oil in that table, and is a similar low SAPS...

Castrol Edge 0W30 has BMW LL01 again!

My understanding is that the open secret (and the owner of this site admits to) is that it doesn't matter what oil you use, so long as it is in spec and you're consistent.

Running 0w-20 STP SYN in bmw 340i (B58) do I need to change immediately?

Like if you drive hot and high mountain passes in the summer, or you visit a track once in a while - sure. 0w-20 is fine for suburban lifestyles with fuel conserving start/stop cycles at red lights and short trips. If it meets spec, it's fine for 95th percentile of drivers on public roads.

Running 0w-20 STP SYN in bmw 340i (B58) do I need to change immediately?

It was very likely what BMW had in their 0w-20 LL17 TPT bottles before they switched back to Castrol. Sure, same as there is no technical reason to deviate from 0w-20 if you don't have conditions prompting a change to 5w-30/40. My only point is that the Euro cars also have 0w-20 oils...

Running 0w-20 STP SYN in bmw 340i (B58) do I need to change immediately?

Not exactly true. Using Shell's oil finder on their German site, the suggestion is Shell Helix ECT C5 0w-20. Castrol DE recommends C3 LL-04 0w-30 or 5w-30.

Castrol Edge EURO CAR 5W-30 C3

https://360.lubrizol.com/Specifications/ACEA-Passenger/ACEA-2016/ACEA-C3-16 ACEA C3 is a grouping of Euro Car builder standards whereby the HTHS remains high (~3.5), but the SAPS content is reduced. Better for emissions and newer engine technologies than ACEA A3/B4, generally. Also has diesel...

Castrol Edge 0W30 has BMW LL01 again!

$52/6qts is boutique oil market positioning, and not the $24/5qt jug economy model we all know and love from Castrol. It's about the same price wise as Pennzoil 0w-30 LX or some Motul oils. Plus with Motul you can do the FCPEuro exchange. Hopefully it comes down.

Running 0w-20 STP SYN in bmw 340i (B58) do I need to change immediately?

Dump at 5k, refill with Castrol 0w-30 Euro (2022 version with LL-01). You can also take a look at Pennzoil Euro L 5w-30 or 5w-40.

Castrol Edge 0W30 has BMW LL01 again!

That was/is my line of thinking. Have Pennzoil 5w-40 Euro (LL-01) in the sump of my 340i/B58 right now, but will move to Motul 5w-30 XClean+ (VW504/LL-04) in April. Lower SAPS is probably better for the Bx8 series, for valve deposits possibly. Great news Castrol 0w-30 is back on the horse with...

    Motul vs Pentosin?

Decided to go with Motul XClean+ 5w30 for my change in spring, so as to get the order in before 11.01.2022 with FCP. Interested to see how it performs, plus the FCP exchange means it just edges out the Pennzoil found locally when you take into account the value in sending back other car parts.

    Motul vs Pentosin?

Right, I'm comparing the Motul XClean+ to the Pennzoil Euro 5w40 locally found at Walmart/AAP. Is LL-04 Low SAPS vs LL-01 Full SAPS preferable in the Bx8 engines for valve deposits, cleanliness, etc. ? The Penz Euro L looks like a good option, but would like it with VW 504 additionally. Hence...

    Motul vs Pentosin?

Right, question though is it "worth" it over LL-01 like Pennzoil? Motul being $53 / 5L then 2x $15 / 1L bottles. Re: valve deposits, low(er) SAPS, etc.

    Motul vs Pentosin?

I wonder if it's worthwhile to try something like the Motul Xclean+ 5w30 for my B58? It's LL-04 and VW 504, so I wonder if it's better for potential valve deposits as it's ACEA C3 and lower SAPS than LL-01 oils like Pennzoil Euro 5w40. I thankfully can still send in used oil as credit against...
