List of Real Synthetic/Fake Synthetic Oils?

I remember reading that many of the passenger car oil makers advertising "full synthetic" are actually just filtered dino oil. I seem to remember castrol Syntec is dino, Amsoil synthetic is real synthetic. Is there a comprehensive list of what oils are real syn? Also: is there a reliable...

Why does ford use .5w30 in the 4.0 ??

I thought they were going to 5W-20 in some cars to try to get fuel economy up a tick. I will never use it in anything I own. As for "5-30 shearing to 5-20 quickly", I would say if it does, you need to change to a better brand of oil. The viscosity increasers should not go away quickly in auto...

    200-300K + on cheap dino?

I think turbos need syn oil, because the oil in the turbo bearings cooks after you shut the engine off. For most cars: I think decent quality oil changed frequently is 100% OK. I recall my 1970 Duster had about 130k when I sold it, still ran great.

What makes an oil energy conserving?

Unfortunately for motorcycles, "energy conserving" usually means it has teflon additives or similar. Some bike clutches slip with that stuff, some run it OK. Mine has no problem, many claim their clutches were ruined because it burns into the plates.
