    Deer Tick Bite

My neighbor got Rocky Mountain spotted fever a couple years ago -- thinks a tick bit him while he was removing a deer carcass from a grove of pines. RMSF is supposed to be pretty rare here in southern Wisconsin, but ticks have become a lot more of a nuisance over the last 10-15 years.

What are you working on today?

I'm in the midst of replacing the steering box in my '95 BMW 525i touring. So far it's been a beeotch of a job. Hopefully I'll have it done by the end of the week.

    Lets talk about new vehicles

20 years ago I had an Audi 4000cs quattro. One summer night I got off work just as a real cloudburst was wrapping up -- like, 8 inches of rain in a couple hours. Things were clearing up and traffic started moving along, and I moved along with it. On I-94 in central Waukesha County, Wis., the...

    Post your latest oil change

At 155k miles wife's Prius was treated to some Royal Purple HMX 5w30 that I got at a BOGO sale. OCI at 5k miles. Two 5-qt jugs is enough for three oil changes. The filter is a Union Sangyo.

Have you driven a Ford lately?

I just turned 20K in a 2021 Ranger. I chose it because the Tacoma is overpriced, Frontier was getting old and the Colorado looked troublesome (I will NEVER own a vehicle that disables cylinders for fuel economy). The Ranger is hardly a new model either, with lots of exposure in foreign countries...

    Mouse trap baiting

These are great traps. I live in the country, so "wildlife" is always trying to get into the old farmhouse. I've never seen the bait stolen from these without a fatality...

Why U.S. Freight Trains Are So Much Better Than Passenger Rail

I live out in the country about four miles from two pretty busy rail lines. I love the sound of those train horns, from a distance. I can't imagine living 75 feet from a rail crossing. People do it, but I'd move. In my state the no-horn rule requires that the road crossing be divided with...

    Short tripping a hybrid?

My wife's Gen 2 Prius has a coolant storage bottle that collects heated coolant and stores it for quicker engine warm-up. I assume the newer Toyota hybrids have the same feature.

    Random no start issues

My '05 Ranger had a similar problem when the neutral safety switch went bad.

Any Gunsmoke TV Show fans on here?

I never cared for Dale Robertson's acting style, but he earned a Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart in WWII

Here's my '95 BMW 525it. It replaced my old MB 300td, which died of rust.

    What happens to old pallets?

Up here there are any number of small businesses that rebuild broken pallets and resell them. Here's one company that grinds up the scrap and turns it into mulch and fuel pellets. Their pellets, BTW, are pretty poor. https://haycreekpallet.com/

Here's an oldie from a band that never made it big in North America but had success in Europe.
