Amsoil EAO filter specs, anyone?

I need to replace my aging SDF10 filter. Amsoil's website helpfully suggests both the EAO09 and the EAO10 as replacements, but doesn't say what the difference is between them. I'm also thinking of going with an oversized filter such as the SDF84. According to Amsoil's website, that filter does...

    Need some engine caulking :)

So I installed a bypass filter a couple years ago, and the filter itself works great, but when I drilled the hole for the return line I drilled it slightly too big, about 1/16th of an inch. Lately, this has resulted in a very small oil leak coming from the hole. I'm very reluctant to do any more...

Changing fluid in a new transmission

quote:
Originally posted by Ken4: Doesnt all new toyotas call for Toyota Type T-IV?

If the Tacoma does call for T-IV, you might try AMSOIL as a replacement. That's what I've got in my Toyota, which also calls for T-IV, and it seems to be...

How do I know that my by-pass filter is clogged

You could also try installing a gauge of some sort on the inflow line to tell you whether there's oil moving through it. You might be able to put it on the return line - it wouldn't work on mine because the filter is pretty small and the flow is weak normally.

toyota 2zz-ge rod bearing failure, syntec 5w-30

Some quotes about the 2ZZ-GE engine: "The 2ZZ-GE is a 1.8L (1796cc) all-aluminum in-line 4 equipped with Toyota's VVTL-i technology and a refreshing peformance G head design, developed once again in collaboration with Yamaha. The 2ZZ block is bored out from the 1ZZ's 79mm to 82mm, and the...

toyota 2zz-ge rod bearing failure, syntec 5w-30

The 2ZZ-GE is a VVTL engine - variable valve timing and lift. The "lift," which I think means the valves are open longer, occurs only at the very top of the powerband. So when 2ZZ-GE owners are racing, they sometimes try to stay over 7K RPMs all the time, downshifting as much as necessary, in...

    Filter Flow Tests?

Russ's responses are interesting to me because I drew completely different conclusions from the testing. I haven't looked to see whether "the opening statements of the test say that they assume that a more restrictive filter, is filtering better," but what I looked to the tests for was a...

    Best bypass filter

I'm using the OilGuard too. Oil analyses have shown that it's definitely working. Whether it works better than the TP filters I don't think anyone can say for certain. I don't know what kind of vehicle you have, but you should definitely identify the location of the filter in order to...

    Is this true?

I think he's thinking you're keeping the volume constant. So if X ml of gas goes into the cylinder every time, some proportion of X is fuel and some is additives. If you increase the amount of additives, the ratio of additives to fuel in any given milliliter will go up and thus the amount of...

Will using an engine block heater extend the life of an oil?

You wouldn't even have to glue it, would you? Just rig up something like a hot plate and mount it on a stand that's the right height so you can just slide it under the car to where it contacts the bottom of the oil pan. Then leave it on low heat overnight and pull it out in the morning.

    Best ways to attack knock?

I'd like to solicit suggestions for good ways to combat knocking in high-mileage engines, in my car as well as general principles. We have a '90 Mazda Protege with 180,000 miles. It had very little maintenance until just recently; frankly I'm surprised it works as well as it does. It knocks, and...
