'08 Silverado 4.8 - Bad Converter - Opinions on Magnaflow Converter

Had some weld-in eastern converters installed on my brother's vehicle and they lasted 6 years before throwing a code. Installed weld-in Magnflows being that the vehicle has 275k miles.

'08 Silverado 4.8 - Bad Converter - Opinions on Magnaflow Converter

At this point I'm leaning towards just getting some weld-ins from Magnaflow but I want to see if they have some spun-body weld-ins as opposed to the clamshell design. I am not in an emissions county, but the longer warranty of the non-CA FVP is appealing. Actually just added the o2 sensors to...

'08 Silverado 4.8 - Bad Converter - Opinions on Magnaflow Converter

It isn’t, seems to have just lost efficiency. I just really hate check engine lights.

'08 Silverado 4.8 - Bad Converter - Opinions on Magnaflow Converter

Looking at the direct fit and weld in converters more closely and the direct fits use spun design converter while the the weld in used the more traditional clamshell design. I do like the idea of a spun converter

'08 Silverado 4.8 - Bad Converter - Opinions on Magnaflow Converter

That's good to hear...fit&finish was the main thing I was concerned about. I suppose I could also go the weld in route...they're $228/each and I have a local shop that can weld them in for likely under $100. Decisions decisions lol Looking at the walker pieces that are shown on...

GMT900 owners: OE motor mount upgrade

I went the other direction--from the conventional rubber mount that had failed on my 08 Silverado 4.8 to a fluid filled/hydraulic mount that smoothed out the vibrations felt through the vehicle. Suppose I'll see how long they last.

'08 Silverado 4.8 - Bad Converter - Opinions on Magnaflow Converter

Good to hear. We put some weld-in magnaflow converters on my brother's '08 Navigator over the summer and haven't had any issues with them thus far. The direct-fit option for that vehicle was about $2k vs $500 for the weld-ins. The direct-fits for the Silverado are much cheaper and I would...

'08 Silverado 4.8 - Bad Converter - Opinions on Magnaflow Converter

After 208K miles, seems the bank 1 converter on the Silverado has finally given up with bank 2 not far behind. Verified it using my scantool and sure enough, the post cat (sensor 2) voltage is mirroring the pre cat (sensor 1) voltage. I'm wondering if anyone has used the bolt-in/direct-fit...

Long Crank Issue after Having Injectors Rebuilt - Leaky?

Update: Life has been busy and the car has been sitting, but I finally had a chance to pull the injectors and there’s a few of them very obviously wet at the tip. You can see the yellow coloring of fuel vs the dry one in these pics. I’ll send them off to Trav tomorrow to verify the issue and...

Reminder to inspect oil bottles when buying at walmart.

The amount of people that send their batteries back prematurely Vs the amount of batteries that actually failed and need to be warrantied is likely negligible—a rounding error in the accounting. I just fail to see how this isolated incident warrants someone paying more for the same product...

Reminder to inspect oil bottles when buying at walmart.

They don't put the warrantied battery back on the shelf lol...don't know what's hard to understand about that.

    08 5.3 Sierra Oil Recommendations

That’s a possibility. The truck serves as an extra vehicle in the family and when it’s used, it generally has a drive cycle long enough to get the oil up to full temp.

    08 5.3 Sierra Oil Recommendations

Perhaps my non-AFM equipped 4.8 has a different calculus to the percentage countdown because the last oil change went 9500 miles and I was around 2% if I remember correctly. Certainly didn’t run it 2000 miles past while at 0% lol! I think you have a good game plan though!

    08 5.3 Sierra Oil Recommendations

50% would probably correspond to about 5000 mile OCIs. I’m really not certain what’s best practice for those engines, but that doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Perhaps just use whatever flavor of basic full sun 5W30 you like with the latest specs. With an OCI like that, don’t see much benefit of...

    08 5.3 Sierra Oil Recommendations

Have an 08 Silverado with a 4.8–same engine family minus the troublesome AFM. I run 5W30 full syn, whatever major brand with an extended performance oil is cheapest at Walmart, with either an acdelco filter or a fram tough guard filter. I change the oil when the vehicle tells me to and last oil...

EverStart H8 AGM - Clarios Made in Germany

Thanks for sharing. I've picked up on the same controversy as well from casual reading on this forum. There's plenty of options in the $50 range which is reasonable given the information it can provide you.

EverStart H8 AGM - Clarios Made in Germany

After further reading here on the forums, it appears that's who the manufacturer is...Varta. As an aside, how do you test your batteries for CCA? At a shop or do you have a battery load tester for yourself? I've been considering purchasing something to check batteries myself and I'm unsure...
