    Motorcraft fl500s excess glue

This filter was used on a gen 3 coyote for 6 months and a fairly low amount of kms/miles and seems to have held up well. But this glue was all over the media and on the bottom of the can and was loose. Kinda disappointing for an oem filter.

Ford 2.7 eco boost engine owners: what oil filter are you using?

I’m currently using a fram tough guard on mine. I’ve used their extra guard many times though and it’s held up really well. I would use the ultra but it’s not readily available it seems. I have no faith in motorcraft products so I refuse to use them.

    Ford Edge 2.7 Ecoboost / Fram ch11955

Fram extra guard used for 14k kms and two years on my 2018 Ford Edge Sport with the 2.7 Ecoboost. The engine oil was changed half way for the interval (because the dealer didn’t change the oil filter when they changed the oil last time). Bulk dealer 5w30 was used. I put a tough guard in this...

    Fram XG10575 2020 Ford F150 5.0

I stopped using motorcraft ones after I had some failures. If you look at my posts I cut one open recently that completely failed. Same application too. It was from a 2020 5.0.

Thanks! I appreciate the info. This platform is new to me and is a vehicle in our extended family. So I don’t know much about it.

    Fram XG10575 2020 Ford F150 5.0

6700 miles on this with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30. 217 hours of use which got it to 6% oil life remaining on the monitor. This one came out pretty good looking. No issues found. Some fresh PUP and a new ultra filter went back on.

Quaker State QS9018 Chevy Malibu 5k

About 5k miles on this Quaker State filter from a 2012 Chevy Malibu 2.4L. Other then the twist in the media is looks fine. Anyone know who makes these? A fram extra guard went back in. If it comes out wavy we might try out the ac delco oem filters.

Fram Ultra xg10575 gen 3 coyote 9k kms

The media is strong and not easily torn especially if you compare it to a motorcraft which tears very easily. You can push on the pleats and they move and come back, on a motorcraft when you push on the pleats they tear.

Fram Ultra xg10575 gen 3 coyote 9k kms

Here’s a few updated photos now that it’s dried out. I don’t see any issues with it.

Fram Ultra xg10575 gen 3 coyote 9k kms

Yep another ultra went on. I don’t have any more in my stash. See what happens for the next change. But I’ve had good luck with the tough guards on our v10 work van. So maybe I’ll just go with them. Not like I’m doing an extended oil change interval anyways.

Fram Ultra xg10575 gen 3 coyote 9k kms

9k kms. 255 hours. Petro Canada uhp 0w40 was used in my 2018 Ford F150 5.0. The truck is tuned and sees 7500 rpm often. It also had a lot of towing on this oil change interval. I was down to 9% on my iolm and was going to wait a while to change it but I had some extra time today so it got done...

    Failed motorcraft fl-500s

Pretty normal use. 6 months. 5k miles. Nothing out of the ordinary. It is not a truck that idles much at all.

    Failed motorcraft fl-500s

I cut every filter open that I use. This happened to be from a friends truck that he gave to me to cut open. The last 500s I did for him looked much better and held up ok. This one…. Not so much…

    Failed motorcraft fl-500s

You’re very welcome sir. I always appreciate your cut and posts. This failure I missed at first till I looked at the picture and noticed metal showing behind. Which I would have missed if it weren’t for the flash I think. So I looked closer and the whole seam is open. It is such a shame that...

    Failed motorcraft fl-500s

Here is a friends filter that I cut for him. Was purchased though a ford dealership where he works. At first glance it seemed fine with the typical wavy pleats. But when I looked closer I could see that the crimped end of the filter media was not sealed. You could see the metal inner tube. It’s...

5.0 Coyote oil filters with enough flow to be safe for frequent redline

I only use fram ultras on my coyote f150. It also sees 7500 rpm on the regular. And I run 40 grade diesel oil in it. No issues so far. I have almost 90k kms on it now.

Coyote vct system vs oil grades

Mine got progressively worse. It would do it only for a brief period in the morning then go away. When it got bad and it was stalling on me it started doing it all the time on tip out. Replacing the solenoids has so far fixed the issue as it has for many others. It’s a bonus if you can get them...
