i have the same engine and have never had a turbo problem and i pull alot. but i let it cool down and i watch the pyro and i have a more open exhaust to lower temps. ive used delo 400, rotella t, pennzoil longlife conventionals and have had good luck with all.

ditto on the ATF i just changed my oil from the pennzoil longlife to the rotella dino 15w40 and can defintaly say that the rotella is much quieter at startup. and oil pressure builds sooner.

my buddy has a 94 IDI and he was runnin rotella t 15w40 5000 miles and on his first analysis, blackstone said that he went to long and should have went closer to 3500. this might be different with delo or something else though and your truck might be better in shape than his.
