Anyone see an mpg increase with a certain oil?

I was wondering if anyone has a good story out there regarding a definite increase in MPG if they use a certain brand of oil compared to others. I'll start by saying I have a 2004 S-type, 130K on it. Always used Maxlife with MPG rock steady at 18.6 mpg. I tried MoBil1 and MPG dropped to a...

Are you saying I could use a 5w-40 in a Honda Pilot that specifies 5w-20?

Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic vs Valvoline Synpower?

Trying to make up mind. I noticed my fav Maxlife, pours outta my Jag way too thick and nasty looking after 3-4 months of stop and go traffic in our beloved capital. I stick to PureOne oil filters too. Wanna go all out for my wheels but can't decide between these 2 synthetics. Do I go HDEO or...

Rotella 5W 40 Synthetic HDEO in a car?

Great tips everyone. Thanks for your support. I can't help but wonder which is better to use, Synpower or Rotella T6? I'm looking at 6 month OCI's.

Rotella 5W 40 Synthetic HDEO in a car?

I recently found out that my 04 Jag S-Type specifies 5W-30 or 5W-40 oil. I always used 5W-30. Funny, the only 5W-40 oil they sell at Wallmart is the synthetic version of Shell's HDEO Rotella. Question is, anyone out there putting HDEO in cars? Sounds like Rotella can clean out clogged septic...

    FleetFilter analysis critique

Puros are made right here in the US BTW. Good construction will invariably mean good media. Just look at RR's oil filter fiasco. His work sold me on the Puros. They're selling a 2-pack for less than 10 bucks on Amazon for whoever likes a bargain! Pile up and u get free shipping. Cheers.

Valvoline Maxlife or Castrol High Milage?

So,I'm a big Maxlife fan but WM had Catrol's HM in the green bottle on sale. I broke down and bought 10, 5 quart jugs of the stuff. Problem is, I'm having buyer's remorse since I know nothing about how well it stacks up against Maxlife. Did I make the wrong decision? I still have the receipt!

    FleetFilter analysis critique

Good insights. I've always worried about the fine filtration vs oil flow trade-off too. Only way to get WIX at the price of a Purolator, is obviously to buy online in bulk. It is surprising though, to see some of the so called high end filters to feature leaf springs or straight tubes.

    FleetFilter analysis critique

The mistake was that the Purolator is listed as having a leaf spring, when in fact, the one i bought has a coil spring. I agree Wix/NAPA filters take first prize. Taking retail cost into consideration, however, makes those Purolators stand out. Just look at that media surface! Cheers

    FleetFilter analysis critique

I recently read fleetfilter.com's thorough analysis of various filters on the market. Excellet compilation I must say. I came away with some deductions that comprise a good general filter: 1. Metal end caps and not fiber board caps 2. Silicone valves and not rubber valves 3. coil springs and...

Only problem with this filter is the leaf spring. Coil springs are better.

    Road Noise and PSI

Update Raising PSI improves road holding, handling, MPG and road noise without sacrificing wear (as long as not too high). Only downside is a less compliant ride.

    Road Noise and PSI

Made an interesting observation recently, After reading a few posts about running higher tire inflation pressures, I tried it myself. Now, I won't bother with changes in MPG, ride quality etc. What I did notice a definite change in, in both cars (Jaguar and Honda), was that road noise was...

Bad Gas = Shady Station Owner?

Wow! All these great comments prove a point...stock up on your favorite fuel additive because u never know!! Bad Gas = Shady Station Owner?

Bigbro, cheap gas is fine until its low detergent/additive levels cost you in the long-run, hence the push for "top-tier gas" by auto manufacturers. Thats why the gas switcheroo I mention is important to me at least.

    WIX or PureOne?

Have been a fan of Mobil 1 filters, but lately, their price has been a thorn in my side. Which filter do u guys recommend amoing these similarly priced brands: Wix/NAPA Gold PureOne Denso Nipon Thoughts are much appreciated <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/bowdown2.gif" alt="" />

Bad Gas = Shady Station Owner?

Wanna read something scary? I was talkin to a tanker driver a few months a go, and asked him if gas station owners bought all the gas they sell from the company they've contracted with (ie Chevron station actually selling Chevron gas), and guess what he said? He admitted, with a straight face...
