    New Vehicle....Break-in Oil?

I always perform the first oil change right around 1k miles. Next at 5k, then every 5k after that. Probably doesn’t make much difference, but makes me feel better. Just use a dexos 1 gen 3 oil and you will be good to go. I since all of these gen 5 engines are direct injected, I wouldn’t run...

how much oil do you keep on hand?

Enough for at least 3 changes for each vehicle. Right now I have 24 qts ear marked for my truck (8 qt capacity) 8 qts of QSFS 5w-30, 16 qts of Mobil 1 5w-30. 18 qts ear marked for the wife’s car (6 qt capacity) all Mobil 1 5w-30. 3 loose qts of Mobil 1 5w-30 that aren’t currently ear marked...

    AC Delco PF63 Cut Open

This was the free dealer oil change that came with the truck (ac delco synthetic 5w-30). Prior to that I had run QSFS 5-30 changed in at 1k miles and 5k miles. No magnetic drain plug on this truck.

    AC Delco PF63 Cut Open

The magnets caught just enough to see while the magnets were still on the can. It was still a negligible amount in my opinion. I used to get way more material off of the drain plug in my 04 Silverado that had over 350k miles on it.

    AC Delco PF63 Cut Open

AC Delco PF63 of GM 6.6l gas. Right at 5k miles on filter, approximately 15k on vehicle. I think that these are hard to beat for the price (<$3.50 each from RA). This one was from a free dealer oil change. I had placed some magnets on the filter for experiment sake. They hardly caught anything...

    Post your latest oil change

2022 Silverado 2500HD, 6.6l gas OCI: 5k miles Out: AC Delco 5w-30, AC Delco PF63 (free dealer oil change) In: QSFS 5w-30, Napa Gold 100255 Filter I had placed magnets on the filter during this run. I was pleasantly surprised with how little they accumulated. This was my last Napa Gold filter...

Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

3x 5qt jugs, 1x qt of vanilla” Mobil 1 5w-30 (16 qts total) from Walmart. It seems most efficient for both storage and price to purchase 2 oci’s at a time. I generally use QSFS in my truck, but it has been harder and to come by in my area. Generally don’t have an issue finding Mobil 1.

    Napa FS VS QSFS

I’ve used both. I prefer QSFS, don’t have a solid quantifiable reason why. I got great UOAs on NAPA synthetic in my wife’s traverse.

How bad do you let your tires get?

No less than 4/32’s or when I notice any loss of traction. I keep my vehicles well maintained, but absolutely never skimp on brakes or tires. Of course I keep a close eye on my truck, but I’m even more conservative when it comes to my wife’s car. A few months back she told me that she...

What filter is everyone running on their "newer" 3.6 2019-2022 GM Engines?

We’ve been running the updated AC Delco PF63 in my wife’s traverse. My truck takes the same filter. Buy them from Rock Auto by the case. Less than $3.50 a filter for the OE filter is hard to beat. I’ve cut open several at this point. They always look good. Side note: The PF63 does not show up...

    First oil change timing?

You'd be fine to just follow the manual, but I usually change at 1000 for that first change. Next change after 4000. Then change every 5000. I know that this is a little overkill, but helps me sleep a little better.

    Post your latest oil change

My wife wanted to learn how to change her own oil. Walked her through the process today. 2020 Traverse 3.6l, 20k miles, 5 Out & in: 5w30 NAPA Full Synthetic, NAPA Gold oil filter. 5k on old oil.

    When to change my oil?

I think that the 7.3 is port injected if I remember correctly. Any oil that meets specs should be fine through the duration of the OLM. You could always do a UAO to confirm. Personally I change the oil at 5k miles in all of our vehicles. Do what makes you feel good and sleep well at night.

Case of 12 AC Delco PF63 oil filters. Only $3.24 per. They fit both of our vehicles. Should last me quite a while.

Thanks for the feedback. I used blackstone. I may use NAPA for the next one.

    NAPA Syn 5w-30, 5000 miles, 2020 Chevy Traverse 3.6l

Since these engines are hard on oil, do you think that why the spec’d 5w30? Maybe they expected it to shear down and that’s why they are spec’ing an Xw20 like so many other newer GM engines. I know that they supposedly adjusted the OLM from when they first started pushing these out. From the...

    NAPA Syn 5w-30, 5000 miles, 2020 Chevy Traverse 3.6l

Do you think that the report is inaccurate or that this engine is just hard on the oil? Edit: Even if it thinned out, I still thought it was an otherwise good looking UAO. I’m still kind of new to the UAO game.
