uses for leftover oil

Ha-ha, I am just like the last guy and have the same problem. I use GC in my B&S engine toro so I have a hard time using up partial quarts.

i want to avoid coking/shearing in a turbo car

IMO a top quality oil and 30-45 seconds of idle time should work will in almost all cases unless you just finished racing... With that said I use the TIT as a gauge to tell me when to shut down. Once the EGT gauge shows a normal idle temp, I shut her down. My turbo is a variable nozzle oil...

What sporty new compact should I get?

My opinion... If you like to work on your own cars the small things that pop up with the VW will not be an issue. If you take your car to the shop for oil changes and such it may not be the car for you. I just can not stand the feel of the civic so the VW wins hands down for me. But if I did...

Does anyone here have a 2008 Rabbit?

Diesel is available in most stations in my area and every where I have traveled across the US and Canada. Should be a solid car...

Scion Xb 0w30 Group IV Oil Choice

Thanks for posting the TSB Bill! Just for reference everyone, the 2005 manual and the later TSB both state to use 5w30 in your 2005 1.5L Scion. Will 5w20 hurt? Maybe not, but with the fuel dilution tendencies of this engine (in these conditions) I am going to stick with 0/5w30 I have...

Lovcom, Either you or I read it incorrectly. I thought I read the 20's were back speced for 2006 and newer... Jason

It is a 2005. The TSB document seems to back spec the 20's but not for 2005's... Jason

    "Doesn't burn a drop of oil" ??

My VW requires 10K mile oil change intervals (first two at 5K). After the first 4 changes I stopped checking each time I filled up. I can not see any oil lost on the dipstick in 10K miles...

Scion Xb 0w30 Group IV Oil Choice

Pablo, Thanks again for that suggestion. After checking out the ASL, I have decided to give it a try in my 2003 Olds van. That will reduce the number of oils I need to stock (2). Delvac for my TDI and ASL for the Scion and Olds. Jason

Scion Xb 0w30 Group IV Oil Choice

SubLGT, How would they know if the oil I purchase is an approved viscosity? Even if they tested the oil (beyond a standard UOA), I would think it would be difficult to tell (oils thin and thicken during use). IMO, it seems completely logical that a 0w30 would work in any automotive application...

Scion Xb 0w30 Group IV Oil Choice

5w30 is required per the owners manual. Toyota would have one heck of a time voiding my mothers warranty for using 0w30. Camu – Not a chance would I ever buy one of these. Do not get me wrong, it is a nice car but very boring. It’s like a toaster, you need one and it does the job. Another...

    Mobil Delvac 1 5w40 - 7,612 miles - 2002 VW TDI

Wear went down a bit it seems. What do you guys think about the tin? It has always been zero. I was going to move back closer to 10K miles again... Jason
