Castrol GTX 5W-20 UOA

Crossbow, yeah it's the stock paper filter. I think you've already got my castrol 5W-20 UOA's on the list on 6tech. I posted my latest numbers to this thread so URLs wouldn't have to be added or changed. As for the Mobil 1 0W-20, I haven't found anyone local who sells the stuff (wally...

    Castrol GTX 5W-20 UOA

From the comments in the report "If wear looked any better in this oil sample, we would have trouble believing it was actually in use 4,260 miles!" A note on the weather here. February was cold (subfreezing) but dry. March was rainy (~4.8in) with temps mostly in the 40's. April temps have...

    Castrol GTX 5W-20 UOA

Here are some new numbers for this oil in the same vehicle using a new NAPA Gold filter. This fill of oil was run from 29,600 to 33,860 (4,260) miles. Driving is ~85% highway from early February to mid April. Testing performed by Blackstone. Values reported as 0 have been left out. element...

    Castrol GTX 5W-20 UOA

The Duratec as installed in the Mazda6 has a bit of both Ford and Mazda in it. The info I have is that the cylinder heads are a Mazda design and the block is cary-over from existing Duratec production.

    Mazda Protege filter HELP

quote:
Originally posted by Joe1: To my knowledge, nobody has ever provided scientific proof to substantiate their claim that the larger filter performs better in Mazda automobiles.

Scientifically, I can't substantiate my claim that the...

    Castrol GTX 5W-20 UOA

I went with the -20 because that's what Mazda recommends for the M6 engines. In looking through the manual there's no warranty requirement to use the -20, but I figured I'd give it a try and see how it works out. I also have quite a bit of faith in the Mazda engineers because my old 89 626 has...

    Castrol GTX 5W-20 UOA

Vehicle is a 2003 Mazda6s (3.0L Duratec) that was run from 8,657 to 12,554 miles (3897) on Castrol GTX 5W-20. Filter is a Wix-NAPA Gold. I'd guess that ~85% of driving is highway. Values reported as 0 have been left out. element: uoa/voa Aluminum: 5/0 Chromium: 3/0 Iron: 20/1 Copper...

Coolant Analysis: Prestone in 2002 WRX

Regarding the Mazda, I've used Prestone's generic neon green glycol based antifreze in my '89 626 for the past 195,500 miles and the water pump has never been replaced (to the best of my knowledge the pump is not replaced with the timing belt).

    Another NEW synthetic oil Meijers

Yeah, I saw the same stuff ('Motortrend') at the store in Holland when I was picking up oil for my '89 626.

    Oil temps-Aluminum-vs-Iron Blocks

I just want to correct one common misconception, cast iron does not have a higher stiffness to weight ratio than aluminum alloy. These values can be found on matweb.com, and are considered 'generic' linear (ie applicable up to yield) properties. Cast Iron Modulus of Elasticity (E): 170 GPa...

    Valvoline 5W-20 VOA

The Valvoline tested is of the 'All Climate' variety. 5W-20 is recommended in both the I4 and V6 equipped Mazda6s. Of some note is that the I4 is a new Mazda engineered engine that we will probably see a lot more of as Ford has given Mazda lead engineering on their I4 engines. FWIW, I'll...

    Valvoline 5W-20 VOA

Just a bit of background. I'm looking at changing the oil on my new V6 Mazda6 and am going to follow Mazda's recommendation to use 5W-20. Having lurked for a while I've seen a couple of other 5W-20 VOAs and hadn't seen one on Valvoline's 5W-20. The testing was done by Blackstone Labs...
