You guys wanna talk about someone blaming Mobil 1 take a look at this. Where's the proof that M1 to blame? Is there even a UOA? No...

    catastrophic lubrication failure, mobil 1

You guys are all jumping on this kid's case, why? Where did he blame the oil? Where did he blame Toyota for his problem? He said he wanted to contact toyota, not warranty his engine. Seems like he's approaching this rationally. He's a performance enthusiast like myself, we'd rather beat...

Is 0-40 full syn the oil to end all oils?

quote:
Originally posted by Kestas: Compared with M1 5W-40, M1 0W-40 has organo-moly in it, which helps with boundary lubrication -- M1 5W-40 doesn't. This is just a consideration when weighing the pros and cons of each oil.

organo-moly...

Is 0-40 full syn the oil to end all oils?

quote:
Originally posted by SSDude: Mobil 1 5w-40 is a better built oil and is more shear stable. Why not use this oil instead of the Mobil 1 0w-40?

Agreed, M1 5w-40 FTW. 0w40 is fine if you need a thick 30 weight, but if you want a real 40...

    01 SAAB 9-5 Aero 7K on M1 15w-50

He's very sure he used Mobil 1, the car has always had M1 and before this change he was doing 3K changes.

    Greetings and a few questions

I've heard the straight PAO synthetic can cause seal problems, but I've also heard the Mobil 1 has a little bit (1-2%) of non synthetic oil to prevent this from happening.

    Recycling oil in my cars

I'm all for not wasting things, but this seems a little obsessive. Maybe a good semi-synthetic for your 06 until it's out of warranty?

    01 SAAB 9-5 Aero 7K on M1 15w-50

This isn't my car, but a friend's from a SAAB forum. The car currently has 42,000 miles and this is the results of a 7,000 oci with Mobil 1 15w-50 SL. Now this car does 50 mile commutes to work every day so...

Mobil 1 0w-40 Better Than GC Gold?

Yeah, M1 5w-40 is good stuff, I run it in my turbo saab. You could also go totally overkill and run castrol syntec 5w-50. I'm thinking of giving that a try at some point.

SAAB Turbo Synthetic Blend 5W-30 (ACEA A1/B1)

The reason this oil is so stout is cause the 9-5 absolutely rapes its oil. Funny though that this doesn't meet the specs for my 01 9-5 as SAAB at that time called for a A3 spec oil. Though now that I think about it they said use "saab turbo oil or an ACEA A3 oil." <img border="0"...

Mobil 1 0w-40 Better Than GC Gold?

I think a lot of people are dissappointed with Mobil 1 rather than the oil. The oil is pretty good, but it's not up to Mobil's usual standard of excellence. M1 T&SUV showed us the have the know how and ability to make a totally killer 40 weight, but 0w-40 is just kinda average.

    Thinnest and thickest 5w-20's ?

All the 5w-20's seem to be a thick 20 (ha, what an oxymoron that is). You could probably swap in a thin 30 and they'd never know the difference.
