Interesting Motor Trend article about EVs

This article makes some valid points, but it ignores the inefficiencies that result from generating electricity, losses in electric transmission lines, and battery-charging inefficiency. In other words, the energy expended to create the electricity used to charge an EV's batteries is far greater...

A new silicone tire sealant stops nails in their tracks

I owned a 2020 Ford Explorer Platinum that came with self-sealing tires: https://www.ford-trucks.com/articles/ford-michelin-unveil-self-sealing-tires-for-2020-explorer/ Don't know if that's the only vehicle that came from the factory with these, but I never had an issue with them during the...

Recommended Oil for Small Fan Bushings?

I have had excellent results lubricating small-motor bearings with Field Controls SWG Super Lube. I don't know what's in this stuff -- or what makes it so expensive -- but it really works well: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BPYCO5O

Possible to charge a dead battery to reverse polarity?

My first car, a 1954 Ford Country Sedan, was equipped with a positive-ground electrical system. Not that unusual in the '40s and early '50s.

Possible to charge a dead battery to reverse polarity?

Yes. A fully discharged lead-acid battery can be reverse-charged, and you'd end up with battery with reversed polarity. It may measure 12.6 volts on a multimeter, but don't expect continued long life from that battery.

    Flywheel with broken magnets.

Does the polarity (orientation of each magnet's poles) of the magnets matter? Looks like the magnets could be epoxied to the flywheel in one of two orientations.

Had to clean my sunroof drains today

Over the years, I've cleared some very stubbornly clogged sunroof drain tubes by using an old speedometer cable chucked into a cordless drill. Ran the drill very slowly both clockwise and counterclockwise while gently feeding the (very flexible) speedometer cable into the top of the drain tube...

Consumer Guide : Cheap cars of '77 are ...

My father always bought cars in pairs -- one for him and one for Mom. He did all routine maintenance and figured buying oil filters, spark plugs, points, etc. would be easier if each car used the same part numbers. In 1974, he traded-in two identical Corvair Monzas toward two identical Chevy...

    Weird Oil Furnace Issue

Yes, definitely check the CAD-cell flame sensor as mk378 suggested. I just went through this with the 30+ year-old oil furnace in my barn. I tried everything to get it to run consistently. In the end, a new CAD-cell sensor from Amazon did the trick.
