Old road maps and towns time forgot

Wow! I just spent 20 minutes that I didn't have browsing old Chicago street maps. What a great rabbit hole for a rainy day. Thanks for posting the link.

    Osage Orange

It's a thorny wood and was planted as fencerows in the days before barbed wire. There are a few trees within a quarter mile of my suburban Chicago house.

Road trip from Houston to Bakersfield, CA

One other place that might interest you in Bakersfield is Buck Owens' Crystal Palace. We went there in 2017-ish and saw/heard the Buckaroos, some of who were founding members. We had decent food, good music, and a good time.

    Grandfather Clock Repair Question

Is $750 the installed price, or just the movement? I have a 1990s Howard Miller mantle clock..The movement was replaced under warranty around 1995. I think that they said that the movement alone was ~$200, which was 25% - 33% of the purchase price.

Road trip from Houston to Bakersfield, CA

I use that stretch of I-40 regularly on my commutes between the Chicago area and central coast CA. I keep an eye on the weather in Amarillo, TX, Albuquerque and Grants, NM, and Flagstaff, AZ, especially in the winter. If things look dicey, I drop down to I-10 and come through Las Cruces, NM...

I too began with a yellow card. I inherited a green card when a colleague retired and left it in his desk.

Wife returned $500 to the bank today

Yes, several years ago. I found a deposit of $600 on my monthly checking statement that I did not make. It was done at a teller, I could tell that, and I hadn't been in the bank in a while. I went to the bank and asked them to pull up the microfiche that had that transaction. The deposit...

Looking for a place to get out and stretch your legs while you're driving the interstates? How about checking out a concrete arrow? These arrows are about 100 years old and date from the beginning of US Airmail service. They were used as visual navigation aids. Besides an arrow, there...

Broken and fogged windows at the Ft. Lauderdale airport

Agreed. With every window cracked, I'd lean towards it being a requirements, design, manufacturing, or installation issue.

Old Craftsman electric hedge trimmer - blades stuck/jammed?

UPDATE: The problem turned out to be a bent tine on the blade. I straightened it, cleaned, lubed and reassembled the blade assembly, then cleaned and lubed the transmission and put it all back together. It runs and works like a champ.

Old Craftsman electric hedge trimmer - blades stuck/jammed?

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Yes, throwing it in the bin is a possibility. Penetrating oil is the first thing that I tried. It did not seem to help.

Old Craftsman electric hedge trimmer - blades stuck/jammed?

Hey all, I'm working on the aforementioned trimmer for an elderly neighbor. I told her that it may not be fixable, and she's OK with that. The motor engages when you switch it on, but the blades seem to be jammed. The blade assembly torques but the cutter does not advance. I don't see bent...

Recommended Oil for Small Fan Bushings?

I have this fan, though mine has the Lasko label. It's a great fan. I have helped fans with failing bearings by using the Tri-Flow lube that I use on bicycle chains. Does the PTFE help? I think so, in that it feels that I go longer between lubes, but I have no hard data.
