Residual Heat (REST) on MB cars

Not trying to cure anything. Mostly thought it was a cool feature. Pull in the garage, windows down, "press a button" Circulates pump, low speed fan, what's not to like

Residual Heat (REST) on MB cars

Just bought a 2003 MB CLK320 (88k miles) for a commuter car. Better than my suburban on gas. Small car, but comfy seats. Has a cool feature on the climate control. Button labeled REST. It's a residual heat function that turns on a small electric cooling pump (I think) and runs the hvac fan...

Used Kia Optima with factory new engine - good buy?

Thanks for all the replies. I have passed on the car. I do appreciate the feedback on the engine (which was the info I was looking for) not pricing info. I ended up purchasing a Mercedes CLK 320, cabriolet with 80k miles. It was less than a Camry I was looking at with 2x the miles. Was...

Used Kia Optima with factory new engine - good buy?

Fair question. Should have specified, I was really just wondering if the recall longblock was reliable. Regardless of price, is the engine good, or a ticking time bomb. Theta2 = good, Good to know. Thanks

Used Kia Optima with factory new engine - good buy?

Seemed Ike a decent car, dealer invoice recall paperwork , showing new long block assembly. I'll research more and ponder. But If anyone has experience with a replacement kia long block, please chime in on how it's doing after the recall repair. Thanks,

Used Kia Optima with factory new engine - good buy?

Super clean, leather, loaded, looks well taken care of (best as one could take care of a disposable car, I guess) price looks good. Will be a cash purchase. Bad time to buy a used car right now, I know. Currently a 1 car family. My wife works from home, semi-retired. I'll leave her the...

Used Kia Optima with factory new engine - good buy?

Looking at getting a 2nd vehicle, commuter. Found a 2012 Optima with the recall done, new engine. 25k miles on new engine, 120k ish miles on the car. Question... Are the replacement engines good, or do they too have problems?

    High Performance Lubricants Engine Cleaner

I Put in EC last night at 147,125 miles. I thought the removal and cleaning of my valve cover PCV baffle soled my consumption problem. It reduced it a lot, but still consuming oil. Was half qt low after 1300 or so miles.

    High Performance Lubricants Engine Cleaner

I got some laymen questions... If I'm reading right, the last oil viscosity was lower than the current viscosity, was the last oil molygen? Previous samples are also higher, what oil were those? And, if last oci and this were the same oil, does that mean the 30wt of EC helped the viscosity...

    High Performance Lubricants Engine Cleaner

Thanks HPL. I'm due for an oil change soon, so thought I would order the EC this weekend. I was having excessive oil consumption to the tune of 1qt / 800 miles. I picked up M1 HM 10w40 to (maybe) help curb the consumption. Haven't changed the oil yet, but I did pull the valve cover...

    High Performance Lubricants Engine Cleaner

Quick question, I plan on using the HPL cleaner, Perhaps I missed it, but is one type of oil better to use with HPL EC? Synyhetic, Conventional, Euro, HDMO? I recall another brand (small company, member) years ago that was popular on BITOG recommending convention oil for best rests. Does it...

Actually,,, It's a reconstituted tire. Just add water and it grows to the proper size. Quite popular in Timbuktu Africa

Bulletin No.14515B GM electrical issues recall

I called a dealer, I gave them the buetin number and VIN, he said it "might" be covered but I would have to bring in the car for diagnostics and evaluation. If not, I assume I would pay for said diagnostic. He didn't sound very confident with comments like, "this is a weird bulletin... never...

Considering a Fumoto valve for the Civic

Hand tight (it's knurled cap, so not tools needed") Since the cap is secondary to the valve, hand tight works great.
