04 v6 4Runner

The upcoming Pathfinder will have a 4.0L V6 that will certainly overpower the Toyota engine.

Seems like a nice report. The only concern I may have is that the insolubles have doubled.

    oil for a `04 G35

I sell new Infiniti cars for a living and we provide the first 2 years of service for free with car purchase. We use mainly 10W-30 Castrol oil in bulk.

    Bad Experience With Castrol GTX

Your post is a testament for how good Castrol GTX really is! I like it and have used it off and on along with Chevron Supreme and Havoline. IMHO, there's no dino that would have stood a chance in the situation you are describing!

Best oil for 2000 Trooper 3.5

I used 10W-30 Mobil1 in my 01 Trooper but for the last year I've been using 5W/10W-30 Chevron Supreme with great results and oil consumption of 1/4qt per 3kmi. These trucks drink oil but with regular maintenance will easily break 200k+ miles.

Rotella 5W40 Synth. Good deal at $12.84/gallon?

FYI, you may also look at the 10W-30 Chevron Delo 400 (not the same as Chevron Supreme). My local Sam's Club has plenty of both oils at very reasonable prices.

    Redline 5W-30 in 2002 Chevy Suburban Z71 5.3

That 100ppm Cu/1000 miles must be UOA record! Hope the GC does better for you.

10,000 mile ATF drain interval - use synth?

I also change the ATF annually. I just buy a case of Dexron III from Sam's and do several drain/refills. The last time I used Pennzoil ATF and it is performing very well.

    Oil and 2000 Isuzu Trooper

Glad to see more Trooper drivers onboard. I wouldn't worry about the oil consumption yet, it's normal for these engines. I used M1 10W-30 in my 2001 but for the last year I've been feeding it Chevron/Havoline 5W-30 or 10W-30 and oddly enough, the oil consumption has halved to about 1/2qt per...

Of course the inside looks great, but would you have expected anything less with 2000 mile OIC?

Oil Recommendations for a Nissan Titan

Perhaps you didn't own it long enough to notice a problem. OTOH, why bother with Amsoil if you don't keep your cars very long?

Oil Recommendations for a Nissan Titan

quote:
Originally posted by JetForeman: Thanks everyone for your suggestions. After reading everyones responses I think I'm going to drain it at the 1K mile mark and put in some M1 10W-30 and see how that does for a couple thousand miles.

I...

    Mobil 1 5w-30 - 02 Honda Civic Si K20A3, 7500 miless

I wouldn't call the lab results comparable, the Fe and Pb readings are way off. I would trust Blackstone personally but could the error have come from the way the samples were taken? If you took the Blackstone sample early in the oil drain and the OG sample when the oil was just trickling...

German Castrol in an '02 Taurus, 5,100 miles

What can an oil do if too much dirt gets through a bad filter? Even the best oil will show wear, right? I would change the air filter, then do one more run with GC and compare the results.

Hard and easy vehiles to change oil on

The absolute worst cars that I've changed filters on have been the two Hondas I owned (84 Prelude and 96 Civic) a few years ago. The filters were on the back of the engines and tilted in a way that assured a spillage of hot oil on you. In comparison, changing the oil on the 5 Nissans we've had...

Sorry, TOD is short for "torque on demand system" but that isn't important for this discussion.

Limited Slip additives: what exactly do they do?

FYI, I recently replaced the differential oil in both front and rear axles on my 01 Isuzu Trooper with LSD/TOD. I have previously used 80W-90 GL5 with LSD additive but this time I used Pennzoil 80W-90 GL5 with no LSD additive since the Pennzoil claims that "because of its unique formulation...

    Penz 15w40 - Isuzu Trooper

Those numbers look great, especially for an engine with that mileage! In fact, the wear numbers are very similar to that of my 01 Trooper with 34k. Good luck with the intake gasket fix, that seems to be a common problem for 98/99 models. FYI, you could easily check (and clean) the EGR...

What oil is in your garage right now?

I am too lazy to count but I still have 50-60 qts of Havoline/Chevron 5W-30 and 10W-30 from Target's $0.68/qt sale.
