    Utility trailer @ Harbor Freight

Put several thousand miles on one of those loaded with a dualsport bike—lotsa 70 mph interstate time including one cross-country trip—always traveled with a spare tire and spare wheel bearings. Greased the original wheel bearings every year and I never had a problem. The tires are crap, the...

10 reasons the Honda Fit is super hot in 2026

Had a 1st-gen Fit for 8 years, had 40K on the odo when I bought it and 199K when I sold it. It drove like a go-kart, got 35+ MPG commuting and 30 hooning around the North GA mountains, and never once left me stranded. The only parts failures were coil packs and sway bar links, other than that it...

    Old school tire shop

I can't be the only one to find it interesting that you ordered a new tire from W-M instead of Tony. Especially after you noted that shops like Tony's were "dying businesses, sadly."

Free New old stock Castrol 2T

I used to run it in my Yamaha JT-1 Mini Enduro in the very early 80s, then in my Kawi KE100 after that. It must have been decent oil, I never seized a piston. Yeah, those were the days. I just didn't know it yet.

Nissan Versa (2008?) - Running around with 1/2 quart of oil in sump...

This reminds me how my stepsister did the same thing to her Nissan Sentra way back in the 80s, she asked my dad about the oil light and it had about a quart left in the sump. Dad filled it and it ran great for several years afterwards. Before Renault got involved, Nissan engines were as durable...

    Trailer bearings: preemptive replacement?

I used to pull my dirtbike around on a 4x8 cargo trailer, went all over the Southeast and one cross-country trip without a single failure. I repacked the bearings annually and always had spare bearings with me though. Never needed them…karmic prophylaxis.

    Opinion on weird tire brands

No doubt close inspection of tires is the major determining factor in regards to replacement. And I only trust cheap Chinese tires slightly more than you—they’re probably OK for the warranty period, but I’ll avoid them on general principle. I have run them before on cargo trailers (because...

    Opinion on weird tire brands

Those six-yr-old tires likely needed replacement anyway due to age alone. Most tire manufacturers’ warranty periods run out at six years—that’s more than enough time for sidewalls to develop cracks, at least in my experience with Chinese trailer tires. I wouldn’t trust them after six years of...

    Opinion on weird tire brands

I’ve run 3 different sets of Douglas tires over the past decade, and my only complaint has been the ~40K-mile lifespan. But they offer solid performance for considerably less money than tires that would only last around 10K miles longer. Overall they’re a good value for me.

    Nissan Frontier

I really like the looks of the new Frontier but no manual transmission option just kills it for me. I’ve owned a 1st gen Frontier (3.3 V6/5spd) and am now in a 2nd gen (2.5/5spd) but there won’t be a 3rd gen in my future unless they offer a manual. And that’s highly unlikely. Old codgers like...

Difference in MPG using different oil viscosities?

I’ve run 5w30, 10w30, and 10w40 in 2 different Nissan Frontiers and a Honda Fit over the past several years…never could tell any difference at all in fuel mileage between viscosities, and that was using a calculator, not guesstimating. And this is over the course of almost 300K miles between the...

    old CB stuff for sale

I (mis)spent a year driving for Schneider back in the 90s, and yakking on the CB kept me alert and alive more than once. There was always live entertainment on ch. 19, funny stories and jokes helped me power through the “drowsies.” A friend of mine tried out truck driving recently, and told me...

First new Honda Prelude I’ve seen in person

And that’s all they were worth… I’m not a Nissan hater—far from it, I’ve owned 3 over the years and my third one is currently my daily driver, I don’t have any horror stories yet. Manual transmissions in all 3, that could have something to do with it. I haven’t heard one good thing about...

    That’s a solid deal…wish my Sam’s Club carried it.

    Car battery

There are 2 entirely different scenarios at play here, but somewhere along the way the lines got blurred. You responded to johnmyster’s post quoted above by implying he was taking advantage of the warranty by getting a battery replaced when it would still start his vehicle but tested below the...

    Car battery

Just because a battery will crank the vehicle doesn't mean it's in good shape, not by a long shot. If my battery's just shy of the warranty expiration and it's cranking the engine over, but noticeably slower than usual, it's going back for a warranty claim. It's only happened a couple times...

    Car battery

How does Home Depot handle warranty claims on their batteries? I’ve seen the 3-yr Exide 24Fs on sale for $100, which is a great price—but I haven’t looked into the warranty policy.

    Rant, eating out

In my neck of the woods, I can only think of one restaurant (a brewpub I really liked) that closed recently, but several others must be barely hanging on, as their parking lots are largely empty even during peak times. Right down the road from my house there’s an IHOP, a Burger King, and a Ruby...

Deciding on which weight diesel oil for 2000 7.3L Ford Diesel

Always interesting to see people acting like they want input to make a decision when in reality they’ve already decided. Probably it’s out of a desire for reassurance and/or validation but I’m no psychologist. Hell, I didn’t even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Thread title could’ve...

    Car battery

5 1/2 yrs is impressive, one time my dad got just over 6 yrs out of an ES Maxx in southern Virginia, I thought he was exaggerating until he showed me his receipt. After that experience, ES Maxx batteries were the only ones he’d buy. I’ve been running Everstart batteries in both family vehicles...
