STRAIGHT to red-line revs on startup!

How many miles do you have in your 4Runner now? Still running fine? I did the same thing to my 2022 4Runner with about 2700 miles on the car. I was debating using the flood start mode to prime the motor with oil on my first oil change but luckily I decided to try it on a start up after a 10...

How much damage could I have done?

Absolutely! This is pretty much what I did. Should put a disclaimer that you should verify in your owners manual that you have the feature. Luckily my engine was warmed up and only sat for 15 minutes at the longest so there was likely enough oil left in the passageways to build oil pressure...

That’s great to hear! Thanks for the feedback.

How much damage could I have done?

Did you have any issues pop up down the road? Thank you for the reply. Makes sense, and I agree. I am totally over thinking it. This is the first new car I’ve ever owned so I’m a little paranoid about possibly damaging something. I’ll continue to drive on and try not to think about it. I’m sure...

How much damage could I have done?

It was too complicated for me to figure out how many revolutions my engine made within the 1 second that it started and revved to 5k rpm so I just went worst case scenario and assumed 5k rpm for 1 second which equates to roughly 85 rotations of the crankshaft. I’m also assuming that the engine...

How much damage could I have done?

Really appreciate your input! I actually did some math to try and put my mind at ease and my engine would have seen wear equivalent to that of a start up directly after an oil change without pre-filling the oil filter. Assuming it takes a few seconds for the oil pump to fill the oil filter...

How much damage could I have done?

Thanks for the explanation! I imagine my engine temperature was still above 150F when I restarted the car and the rpm’s went to 5k. Lesson learned and hopefully I’ll forget all about it by the time my 4Runner hits 200k miles :)

How much damage could I have done?

Thanks, that puts my mind at ease! I don’t plan to ever do it again. Thanks for the reply! It’s possible that I didn’t have the throttle all the way down. Since it’s a push button start, I also assumed the gas and brake needed to be pressed to the floor. That may have also been a factor too...

How much damage could I have done?

Thanks for the responses all, helped put my mind at ease. These 4.0 motors in 4Runners are noisy to begin with so you can imagine how paranoid I was on the ride home.

How much damage could I have done?

Hopefully someone gets a good laugh out of this… I have a brand new 2022 4Runner and read about how vehicles that have flood mode will allow the starter to turn the engine at a low rpm to circulate oil through the motor. I decided to try this without verifying that my car had this feature. I had...

New 4Runner, Amsoil or Toyota Oil?

Thanks for the input everyone. I will likely forego the amsoil and either stick with the Toyota oil or use Mobil 1. I think changing the oil more frequently is more important than which brand I go with. I would even consider doing 3k oil changes with cheaper oil even though that may be overkill...

New 4Runner, Amsoil or Toyota Oil?

I bought a 2022 Toyota 4Runner and want to change my oil early to get rid of any break in material that may be in the oil. I understand that Toyota specs their oil and Mobil makes it and that it has a high ppm of moly in it. I’m wondering if there would be any advantage to using something like...

Can you mix differential fluid brands?

I put Mobil 1 75w90 in my F150s front diff when I last changed it and went to vacuum it to replace it with amsoil 75w90 but my cheap hand pump just wasn’t cutting it so I bailed halfway through and added a quart of amsoil to bring it back to the correct level. Is there any harm done with...

2017 F150 engine oil and diff fluid?

Thanks for the tip on pumping out the ATF to replenish. I definitely think I will take that approach as I’m not thrilled by the reviews I’ve seen on aftermarket pans. I’m tempted to drop the pan now and replace the filter and continue to replenish the ATF via pump every 15k miles or so but I’ve...

2017 F150 engine oil and diff fluid?

Thanks will definitely try that out next oil change.

2017 F150 engine oil and diff fluid?

If 75w140 won’t hurt anything but a slight mpg decrease then I think I’d prefer to keep using it as I’ve noticed the the clunk I experience when accelerating after coasting is greatly reduced with the thicker diff fluid. It very well may be placebo but I’ll consider going back to 75w90 when I...

2017 F150 engine oil and diff fluid?

That gives me some piece of mind. I’ve heard people claim that the VVT operates off of oil pressure and a change in oil weight can cause issues but apparently the 5.0 in mustangs recommend heavier weight oils for track use so I can’t imagine much damage would occur. I went to 5w30 mostly to see...

2017 F150 engine oil and diff fluid?

Thanks for the replies everyone, sounds like the fluids I chose are about on par with what you all are using. I love the 5.0/6 speed drivetrain so hopefully with these fluids I’ll get many more years of trouble free ownership.

2017 F150 engine oil and diff fluid?

I have a new to me 2017 F150 4x4 5.0 with 33k miles on it and decided to change the diff fluids and oil since I don’t know the history of the vehicle prior to me owning it. I didn’t remove the cover, just vacuumed out the diffs and refilled. Ford recommends 75w85 fluid for the front and rear...
