Chev Blazer/GMC Acadia 3.6L ?

I'm thinking of selling my daughter's nanny mobil, a 2014 2L turbo Escape that just turned 50,000 miles before it falls apart. The Acadia AT-4 looks cool. Is the 9 speed auto and 3.6L V6 any good? Can the stop/start be deleted or disabled?

    Chev/GMC 5.3 & 6.2L vs 6.0L

I'm still dithering on a new truck for my daughter. An SLT/LTZ 1500 with max trailer, 8 speed (8L90E) and 3.42 gears costs about the same as a 2500/3500 similarly equipped with the 6.0L and 6L90E 6 speed & 4.10 gears. Because of the terrain, either going uphill or downhill, cylinder deactivation...

    Post your last blend

New topic, blending your own engine oils. Example; 50/50 Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40 and SAE 1330 = 20W40 40C 107 100C 13.5 HTHS 3.9 That is an example of something I do on a regular basis, or mix 10W30 and SAE 40 for the same result.

True economics of extended oil drains

ASTM D7589 OK, this one costs money, maybe there is a free download to be had in the ether. Basically fuel economy savings from resource saving engine oils vs a base-line oil...

    Rustoleum Epoxy Shield

Would Rustoleum epoxy shield or rock solid extreme gloss floor coating work as a gravel guard on pick-up trucks? I saw a granite kitchen counter finished with the garage floor stuff, it looked awesome, and it only cost $100.

    The best XW20 is a mono-grade (!)

    Delo 400 SAE 20 KV40C 61 KV100C 8.5 HTHS >2.9 approx. P .069 Z .076 SA .95 Flash 236C This engine oil would likely pass 10W cold performance, therefore be labeled 10W20. Comparable 0w20 and 5W20 engine oils with KV100C of 8.5 typically have 2.7 HTHS. If a mono-grade SAE20 was blended...

    Best SAE40 Engine Oil?

My go-to mono-grade SAE40 for years has been Duron40. Because of it's high VI, I trust it down to -5C/20F. I also use it to give 10W30 a HTHS boost, and as a top up oil. Synthetic 10W40 and 15W40 synthetic blends, from the KV100C to published HTHS trajectory, suggests that they are VII free...

    Intake port velocity?

How can intake port velocity be improved without using a smaller port or larger engine? 1. A higher compression ratio? 2. A shorter connecting rod? 3. A larger intake valve? 4. A later intake valve opening point? 5. A faster intake valve opening rate? 6. A larger bore for the same displacement...

    High SAPS & DPF Re-Gen

Do high saps engine oils trigger dpf re-gens more often than low saps engine oils? Would a dpf equipped engine need to consume oil before saps become an issue?

Best engine oil for Cadillac ATS-V?

Dexos 5W30 couldn't be the recommended oil for track use, it's not exotic enough. What do the DTM teams use?

    2017 6.7L Duramax

I can't find much information on this new engine design slated to replace the 6.6L for 2017 GMC and Chevrolet trucks. Some say the DEF will be gone. (Yea!) My guess is that it will have a larger sump and be 5W30 Dexos II for improved fuel economy.

    Is 20W20 a mono-grade?

What defines a mono-grade? The absence of classic VIIs, the absence of any additives that modify the viscosity or the inability of an engine oil to pass a W cold cranking and pumping classification below it's SAE grade?
