Surprised by the number of hybrid vehicles in France

I'm on vacation in Paris with the family and it's been a few years since I was in Europe and I have to say I'm really surprised by the number of hybrid vehicles here in France. If I had to guess it's maybe 1/3 of all passenger vehicles in Paris with the Toyota C-HR being the most popular. Still...

2022 KIA Soul 2.0 Choice of Oil & OCI

Now that I own a 2022 KIA Soul and I've read through various posts here and elsewhere and I've watched a number of Youtube videos I'm opening up the discussion on choice of oil. Normally, I read the owner's manual and just follow it and that works well with my Lexus and Toyota. Since there seems...

Pay as you drive fee for my teen drivers

Here's my situation: I have a 16-year-old, a 14-year-old, and a 12-year-old. The 16-year-old is the only current driver but he's a senior this year and will be leaving for school in about 14 months. At that point, the 14-year-old will be close to getting his license. My wife wants her Lexus...

I'm so confused with my eero6 Pro WIFI router

I have an eero6 Pro WIFI router that I have had for months with no issues. I added a second eero6 Pro on the second floor to help cover a room over the garage and there was an update around that time too and shortly after that I still get full reception on my phone but the internet is...

    Mobil 1 EP 0W-20, 5000 miles, 2019 Lexus RX 350

Another nice boring UOA where Mobil EP held up well and there seems to be plenty of TBN left. The previous run was Kendall GT-1 Max which also did well with plenty of TBN left. I put 0W-20 Castrol Edge EP 20K in the sump for this run and will be going to 10K mile oil and oil filter intervals and...

A know oil prices are up but....

200 gallons of heating oil was ~$600 32 days ago. 200 gallons of heating oil today is going to cost me $1100. Just last Tuesday prices increased $1.50/gallon. The northern states need an early Spring!

Frontier Airlines Rant - What a mess!

We wanted a direct flight from Boston to Cancun and the only airline that offers this is Frontier. I usually try and fly JetBlue domestically and stick to major carriers for international but we were only going for a week and so didn't want to waste two entire days flying. The trip down was ok...

    Castrol Edge EP 0W-20 - 5000 miles - 2020 Toyota Tundra

Pretty uneventful. The truck has 25,000 miles on it. Lots of very cold morning remote starts with the key fob - sometimes two 10 min intervals in a row. This was mostly in town driving too. I have ST 0W-20 20k in there now which I’ll run for another 5 miles and then I’ll probably do 10k mile...

New tires sound like a dodge ball bouncing off someone's head over bumps

If it's not one thing, it's another. Vehicle is a 2019 RX 350 with 26,500 miles on it. I just had new tires put on the vehicle - 235/55R-20 MICHELIN CROSS CLIMATE 2. The wheels were mounted on the stock rims, balanced, and a four wheel alignment performed. The shop owner called and asked if we...

    The Madness of "Market Adjustments"

I I thought $5K or $10K was bad...but this a $40K market adjustment plus a bunch of other BS for a $96K RAV4. Surely, no one regardless of how much money they have would be dumb enough to actually buy this vehicle?

    Vehicle batteries

Talk to me about vehicle batteries. My 2020 Tundra battery went dead after 6 months. Since I also have 1000 watts of aftermarket audio gear in the truck I decided to update to a Northstar X2Power Premium AGM BCI Group 27F Car and Truck Battery. From my POV it has been flawless including in the...

Need a new clothes washer - does anyone make durable appliances anymore?

Had a Kenmore Elite He3 front-loading washer and dryer and both lasted 10 years and both pooped the bed within 3 months of each other. I replaced that with a Whirlpool top-loading washer and after 3 years it is shot - needs more work than it would cost to replace it. We do a lot of laundry with...

Shell Rotella Gas Truck 0W20, 5,000 miles, 2019 RX 350

A little over a 5k mile run with Shell Rotella Gas Truck 0W-20 and an OEM Toyota filter - there is 25k on the vehicle. Fuel dilution is a little high - my wife short trips a bit as this is mostly an "in town" vehicle with some highway. The high Ti is most likely due to the previous oil used -...

    Kendall GT-1 Max (GF5) 0W20, 5000miles, 2020 Tundra

My first sample sent to Polaris - I also included my last sample sent to Blackstone - both samples 5000 miles. Wear metals look good (do we really believe aluminum was ZERO?) and they continue to trend down over time as is silicon. Not sure what to think about fuel dilution as I don't believe...

    Things I hate about my 2019 RX350

I drive a 2020 Tundra and I love it. Gas mileage sucks and the tech is old but the thing has 20K miles on it and it still seems rock solid. My wife drives a 2019 RX350 that I almost never drive. Now to be clear, my wife drives like an old grandma. Easy on the throttle, easy on the brakes, and...

Ford offering 2.9% for 36 months or 8.9% for 84 months

A friend is looking to buy a truck. He called me because the "incentives" right now from Ford are 2.9% @ 36months or 8.9% @ 84months. I understand supply is limited and 84 months is an extended repayment and there is typically a markup for those offers but 8.9%?! Money is still free from the...

    First Co hydronic Air handlers

I was talking to a friend about replacing my AC and he said he was replacing his as well but he had never heard of the company in the quote. To be honest, neither had I. Has anyone heard of First Company (First Co)? Does anyone have experience with these units? An online search shows a very...

Super Tech Advanced Full Synthetic 0W20

Nothing out of the ordinary here. I do wonder if they made any changes going to 20K miles?

    A bunch of whiners

Between FB and various vehicle forums it seems like the level of incessant whining is at an all time high. Just in the last five mins I’ve read - My engine with 200k miles makes noise at start up but runs fine...there’s a huge corporate conspiracy to not fix it...boohoo. My vehicle feels a...

    RGT 0W-20, 5000miles, 2020 Toyota Tundra

So not a bad run but doesn't seem like 10K mile oil. My Tundra's life is pretty easy. No towing and almost always enough time to come up to full operating temps. No stop-and-go traffic - mostly in-town driving at 35-45mph with a few stop signs or highway.
