RANCHERO! With Bonus - 2022 WRX

That Ranchero is a 77-79 which was the last year's they made the car. The GT was a factory option, but it was just an appearance and interior package, not a performance package. This car would have come powered by a 302, 351W, 351M or a 400. There was no 400 in 1979. All of these engines were...

Wheel damage from incorrect lug nuts?

I checked the car today. The taper seat lug nuts were on more than two turns, so they might have had barely adequate thread engagement. I inspected the wheel holes and it didn't appear that the wheels had any damage of significance beyond slightly marred edges around the holes. I got installed...

Wheel damage from incorrect lug nuts?

Like I said, I am aware the lug nuts need to be changed ASAP. What I am more concerned about is if this would have caused damage to the wheels or not? They guy would have torqued them and she already drove a short distance with the car before she asked me about it. And yes I agree, the guy...

Wheel damage from incorrect lug nuts?

A friend of mine paid someone to change the winter tires to OEM aluminum wheels on a 2022 Highlander. Long story short, the guy ended up using the lug nuts for the aftermarket aluminum winter wheels, instead of the OEM Toyota because of a mishap with the tire storage facility. My friend asked...

Gen 5 Rav4 Hybrid High Voltage Wiring Corrosion

Yes I think EMI is an issue as apparently when the harness degrades, there is a loss of the AM radio signal. I am wondering of the corrosion in the connector also spreads to the main wires. It seems when it gets as bad as the example I posted, DTCs are set and the vehicle becomes disabled...

Gen 5 Rav4 Hybrid High Voltage Wiring Corrosion

The epoxy idea might work, the only issue I see is it could void the warranty. I wouldn't want Toyota to extend coverage on this and then be not eligible due to my modifications. So I think making something like a surround or shield that is easily removable might be a better option. Toyota...

Gen 5 Rav4 Hybrid High Voltage Wiring Corrosion

I agree, it is a bad design. It has me seriously hesitating on buying one, especially since we keep our vehicles for at least 5 years. Ever since these 5th gen Rav4 Hybrids came out if figured they were a good option for us. I have wanted to move my wife back into a hybrid for a while, and...

Vehicle Sighting - 1973 (or so) Gran Torino

That's is a 1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport, which was a separate model. Most people arbitrarily call all 1972 and newer Ford Torinos - "Gran Torinos", which is incorrect - the model line was Torino. The 1973 Torino line had several other models, including Torino, Gran Torino, Gran Torino Brougham...

Gen 5 Rav4 Hybrid High Voltage Wiring Corrosion

We are thinking of replacing my wife's Outback with a Rav4 Hybrid. I came across this article (it's in french, but google will translate): https://www.lapresse.ca/affaires/chroniques/2022-04-06/rav4-hybride/un-cable-corrode-a-6800-fait-pester.php It speaks of some serious wiring corrosion...

    Used Titan vs Tundra

I have a 08 Tundra TRD which I have owned for a decade. It's been a great truck. The ride is good, but I use P not LT tires. My brother had a 2011 Tundra reg cab short box TRD with LT tires and it was much stiffer. The 5.7L and 6 speed is an awesome drivetrain. If my truck was wrecked tomorrow...

Brake Rotors Effect on Stopping Power

Thanks for all the replies. As I suspected, the slots and metallurgy don't seem to have any significant effect on stopping power. So I will just stick with plain rotors and put my money into high end pads like porterfields.

    Ford Racing FL-1HP

Thanks that's the answer I expected, which is why they have been sitting sitting years. Anyone know the filtration specs on these purely out of curiosity?

    Ford Racing FL-1HP

A friend gave me two of these Ford FL-1HP filters years ago and they were old then. So they have been sitting a long time, but I do have a built Ford V8 I could use them on. Anyone know the specs on these? Are they worth using? I know some racing filters are more about flow that filtration...

V6 “good enough” in a Pickup?

I agee the 4.3L will be fine, but the Vortec 350 had 255 hp at 4600 RPM and 330 ft/lbs at 2,800 rpm. The TBI L05 350 engine used from 1987 to 1995 had 210 hp at 4000 RPM and 300 ft/lbs at 2800 RPM.

Brake Rotors Effect on Stopping Power

I was not only interested the slotted vs unslotted, but if the metallurgy between the high end rotors and low end rotors made any difference. For example Centric has the CTEK line rotors and StopTech slotted rotors for this car. The StopTech description reads as follows: While the CTEK...

Brake Rotors Effect on Stopping Power

They are front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The stock brakes are actually pretty good, but I want better with modern traffic. I know tires have a big effect but I just want to keep this discussion to brakes. FWIW, I know Mustang guys have got excellent performance with stock disc drum...

Brake Rotors Effect on Stopping Power

I am overhauling the brakes system on an old Ford Torino. I am looking to get the best performance from the stock disc/drum setup. I was going to upgrade the brake pads and shoes to Porterfield's R4-S compound. I could also go with EBC pads, but Porterfield is the only vendor that makes brake...

    Brakes for 2016 Outback

Thanks for the info. I really don't care what brakes go on the car, just looking to get best bang for the buck. Like I said, I am just looking for a balance of longevity, corrosion resistance and stopping power. The Akebonos on the rear have seemed decent (I got about 55K miles out of the OEM...

    Brakes for 2016 Outback

I am looking to replace the OEM front brakes on a 2016 Outback. I was thinking of trying Raybestos Element 3 pads and coated rotors but RockAuto has neither in stock. I can get them through another vendor but significantly more money. However, I can get Akebono ProAct Pads and Centric partially...

    Quality Wheel Bearing

Thanks for all the advice. I went to order from Rock Auto and of course they are now out of stock. I will see if I can find SKF from other sources or locally.
