2003 Honda Accord k24 Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30

I agree with your assessment. A quart in 600 miles, is in my view a car that should not be on the road. Every 3,000 miles is a prosaic occurrence, but still out of the norm for a k24. Best wishes and please keep this thread updated as you learn more.

2003 Honda Accord k24 Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30

I would suggest focusing on keeping the oil topped up as you have an oil burning situation. I like the LM engine flush and a few folks in the thread have had good experience with the BG piston soak product. So you could try that (you might need to have a mechanic secure the BG product???)...

Using Impact Sockets only for 3/8” and 1/2” dr

Kinda concerned that this thread is a high level CIA interrogation designed to get folks to admit to using regular sockets with an impact wrench. I will admit to having done that a few times. Let’s see what happens to me next.

Do you replace a filter based on age instead of run time?

    Three to five years.

2003 Honda Accord k24 Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30

I like it personally, but the process is probably duplicative and at the same time oddly specific. I would prefer using the LM flush, driving 2500 miles and repeating with the cheap oil rinse both times, and new filters x4. I suspect you have a worn engine.

Boroscoped the cylinders on my 2014 Acura RLX today

I like to follow rules, but gotta agree here, and think the benefits outweigh whatever NGK has in mind.

    14k mile Honda filter

Not much to see, but is anyone asking for my comments on a 14k OCI?

Riding mower cranks but won't start

Strictly speaking, this is true, but if you are looking for likely occurrences, generally speaking, if you put a working small engine away a month ago, it still has spark today.

Riding mower cranks but won't start

Sure, but it’s almost never the spark plug.

Riding mower cranks but won't start

Could be wrong here, but the OP said the engine gave a couple of putts. That’s a little bit opaque, but I would take it to mean that it fired off once or twice, which probably means spark, timing or compression are okay. Beyond that, the rule with small engines is that it is always the carb...

Riding mower cranks but won't start

There are no meaningful ill effects of using starting fluid. If you get some noise, you know you probably have a carb issue. Not sure what equipment you have, but most carbs can be easily rebuilt with kits that usually cost less than $10

2025 MDX Type-S Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 0W-20 - used oil analysis

A Mexican owners manual, misuse of the term multi-viscosity, calling following the owners manual a crime, and telling us to believe every word you say because you have been an engineer for 30 years are not evidence of anything. You have asserted that you have seen viscosity diminished due to...

2025 MDX Type-S Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 0W-20 - used oil analysis

I live in the United States, where the manufacturer recommendation is 0W20 API spec Synthetic for the new Type S and the 2016 GDI. Period.

2025 MDX Type-S Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 0W-20 - used oil analysis

I understand the argument fine. I get that there is a thought that a thicker oil always provides more HTHS protection. I also know that oil specifications are driven by many factors and that an assertion that using 0W20 in this engine is a “crime,” is hyperbolic. This engine will thrive on the...

2025 MDX Type-S Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 0W-20 - used oil analysis

I am not an engineer, but agree that they generally do what they are told by those making business decisions. My thing is extracting utility out of these engines over long stretches. I have gone many miles on thin oil. I bet that no engineer at Acura is sweating their oil rec.

2025 MDX Type-S Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 0W-20 - used oil analysis

Following this, you are suggesting that Acura had it right on the old J series when they recommended and embossed on the oil cap 0 w 20, but when it came to the 3.0, and they did the exact same, they got it all wrong?
