Younger adults not wanting to move from home for career opportunities

I can understand it being a tough decision. You are moving away from any safety net you have for a promise. It is likely, at that age, that you are doing it with little in the bank as far as cash reserves should things not work

    Canceled oil promo

Oil prices have been stupidly erratic. We get oil every week or every other week from our wholesaler depending on how much we go through. The prices we were paying hadnt changed in years. In the past 3 months its been a roller coaster, some weeks its up, others down. I do not do much...

Gasket maker or install OEM paper gaskets dry?

Our standard procedure in my shop on paper gaskets is we use high tack gasket cement on both sides. This serves to hold the gasket in place while installing the part and to fill any small imperfections in the sealing surfaces. Ive never been a fan of smearing RTV on perfectly good gaskets...

    New tool thread

Thats really the only downfall, I have 3 of em and have programmed countless modules with them. Use it in diag as a regular breakout box as well. We also use them in our eeprom and advanced programming classes with great success. One addition I would make is aeswave sells a cable for them...

    New tool thread

To each his own but I have been using flank drive plus wrenches for 15 years without a complaint. The only non flank drive plus wrenches I have in metric are one set of gearwrenches and my flare nut wrenches that have open ends on one end flare on the other.

    Brakes feel squishy after service

If there was a leak you would have trouble building pressure in a panic stop situation. I agree with the Critic that its air. The fixed calipers on those trucks can be a royal pain to bleed air out of and it wouldnt surprise me if a line was loosened to have enough movement of the steering...

Crack in 2003 Dodge Durango AWD/4WD front diff carrier assembly

Thats a casting seam not a crack. It looks like the oil seal is pushed out. I would check the vent on the differential and make sure it isnt blocked then replace the seal and recheck.

    Box end ratchet wrenches

Ive got them all. My most used are a toss up between the ratcheting box/open end and my extra long flex heads. The Flex heads I use most are reversible but I have a set of non-reversible extra long flex heads that have a slimmer head . That said I have flex heads, stubby flex heads, no flex...

Two engines, two misfires and their diagnoses

RC is my first test on any misfire diagnosis and I preach that whenever I teach a misfire, scope, driveability or no start class. It is probably one of the fastest tests you can perform to easily gain diagnostic direction. I have a laptop turned on on my toolbox all day and my scope stuff...

Shopping: do you already know what you are buying?

I generally know what I am getting when going shopping most places other than the grocery store. At the grocery store I usually have a general idea but things like meat may change based on what looks good or is on sale. At a quick service restaurant if I Do not know what I am getting I wait to...

    California governor on unbranded fuel

From the time our family business left Mobil in 1998 til we stopped selling fuel in 2009 we were unbranded. At that time in this area Citgo and Sunoco were the only ones with their own terminals/pipeline. Everything else came from PPC (has since changed names) and was blended at the terminal...

    New tool thread

I know the Snappy taps and dies were moved in house. We had a heck of a time getting warranties on broken taps and dies for a couple years as tooling and production ramped up and they moved away from irwin.

What voltage would you use for a vehicle power supply?

There is no one set voltage that everyone is happy with anymore, which is why most programming power supplies are adjustable. My portable power supply is a Midtronics 55 amp that was the standard 15+ years ago outputting 13.8 volts but its not sufficient for newer stuff. In the shop i use an...

Torx plus - What is a good kit for a home user?

Torx plus is not particularly common, at least on domestic or asian vehicles with the exception of some cylinder head bolts that I can think of. I use torx every day but I would have to dig for a set of torx plus. I am in the rust belt as well.
