what to do with old gas?

I always burn the stuff in my vehicles, mixed sparingly, about 1/2 gallon per 15 gallon tank. The only thing you really need to watch for if you're doing this is water in the fuel; you don't want to mix that with your good fuel no matter what!

    1998 Chevy 6.5L turbo diesel

I think that most here will tell you that while the Cummins 24v is a fantastic motor, that truck has two weaknesses: (1) The 24 valve lift pump is known to go bad which then toasts the injectors (this is easy to remedy before a problem occurs); and (2) Dodge automatic transmissions or that era...

Valvoline 10W30 VR1 in my 2011 Suzuki KingQuad?

Used to use VR1 10w-30 and 20w-50 in my friend's XR250. Never had any problems with shifting or clutch slippage. You should be fine. I currently use a lot of Rotella T 15w40 in our several quads (wet clutch) and it works great there as well. Never tried the T6 in that application but it...

    2002 Silverado 5.3L 8cyl

Then it's not the typical 4l60e clunk. Not sure what it is but it isn't normal! I've dealt with several dead or dying 4L60E's ...

    2002 Silverado 5.3L 8cyl

Probably not a driveshaft issue. Does it clunk between the 3rd-->2nd gear downshift and 2nd-->3rd upshift under light load? How hard of a clunk are we talking? Does the truck shudder or is it mostly the sound?

Oil recs for Corvette Z06 LS7

Man there is a lot of "reinventing the wheel" going on in this thread. If it's a stock or fairly stock Vette it will be fine with the OEM specified oil under any condition imaginable. Of course there are equivalents but I don't see why you would start blending oils etc. when you can buy...

    Automotive sacrilege, opinions on Wanli

I worked for a while selling used/discount tires. Sumitomo are OK, much better than Triangle or Wanli. I would not put Wanli or Triangle tires on my own vehicle. The rubber compound is not nearly as good as a good tire. I would buy a good set of used tires (that aren't too old) before doing...

    Yamaha ATV and HDEO's

Been using Rotella T 15w-40 & other HDEOs for many years in all of my 4-stroke ATVs, both air cooled and liquid cooled. I have never ran a UOA, but there have never been any real problems of note. I have also ran regular 10w-40 in the past, although I suspect that HDEO is better suited to...

I agree that the laptop that Rand recommended would be a good choice: I didn't mention them in my previous post but the newer...

Need help finding basic Laptop for wife!

In that price range I am partial to the Lenovo computers in this current generation (decent keyboard). Get something with at least 4GB of RAM. Obviously we can get into a lot of details but most full-size laptops will work well for what you want to do. I would recommend going to the store...

Lucas Transmission Fix, Valvoline Stop Leak -safe?

I've used the Lucas in the past on a few different vehicles (mostly college friends) to no ill effect. It did make the clunky transmission shift smoother and slowed down the leak a bit. Basically, the stuff is as thick as molasses and very tacky. If you have a serious leak I doubt it will...

    Why shop locally for parts?

I base my buying decision on a few balancing factors: (1) Do I need it today? If yes, then I'm buying it local. (2) Is there a big price difference, local vs. online? If online is significantly cheaper, then I'm buying it online. (3) What kind of warranty does the local part offer...

Are Chev 5.3L,6.0L, and 6.2L all oil burners?

My 5.3L & 6.0 HO with over 120K and over 150K miles respectively only used 1 quart max. (Mobil 1 5w30 EP) every 15,000 miles. These are not the AFM versions, I hear that those are using a bit more oil.

    blinking a/c light

My Avalanche randomly flashed the light at me 70,000 miles on. If I turned the truck off and back on it would usually work again. It did seem to happen more in the winter months, but also happened a few times in the summer. I have no explanation as to why it happens, but it was still...

How long on Napa Golds ?

As always, I think that it depends on your particular engine & service conditions. I've run a few out to 15,000 on my 5.3L Avalanche and 6.0L Escalade with no negative effects. However, I wouldn't recommend that for every motor and situation. The GM LS motors are not hard on oil and my...

    Air compressor oil.

I've been known to use motor oil in a pinch because some oil is better than no oil without any catastrophic results. However, it is best for the life of the compressor (specifically the valves) to use a compressor oil. They are generally ash free and limit valve deposits when used in compressors.

    2000 V-Star Classic 3000 miles Rotella 15w40

On it's face the Rotella offered better protection than the Delo because of the significantly lower Iron & Aluminum numbers. However, I would consider these results far from conclusive. It's hard to know what other variables could have contributed here. A cool test would be to run another...
