We have oil filters for a reason, anything that is in the pan is there because it's not circulating through the oil system. Higher wear metals are expected in any new engine, flushing oil down the drain for a feel good practice is just that. I say it's stupid just like the people idling for 15...

So why change it then, "break in junk" has been an old wife's tale for years now. It's quite obvious there is zero need to change early for sometime.

Boy did I have a scare today! Still a little concerned...

The one and probably not so good for the driveline way I found out you could have a limiting slip rear diff in my first Forester XT. A 3 wheel burnout, 3 because while the back 2 tried to oversteer as I popped the clutch the passenger front wheel also did a one tire fire. It was an...

Boy did I have a scare today! Still a little concerned...

2009 Forester XT w/ 4spd auto had the fuse as well so I'd suspect your latter is correct. I also think there were slip disc in the axles to prevent binding but I don't know for sure.

Boy did I have a scare today! Still a little concerned...

Forester XT's and the higher L.L.Bean trims are not peg leg rears regardless of manual or auto. I know for a fact my 05 Forester XT had a viscous rear LSD and the viscous center diff.

Chevy says plugs good for 97,500….NOT

So now I need to go check the plugs in the Colorado as 75K just happened and they also claim 97.5K...slightly different part number. 41-109 so maybe a tad hotter? I don't remember the numbering vs. heat range.

This is why “Quick Struts” are popular

So your argument is your spring compressor is safer than him not wearing gloves? That's laughable and ridiculous. I'll take exposure to carcinogens over being forced to eat my own face any day.

I plan to sample in or around 5k miles since that will be well after winter and a long drive we have planned. Just to see if it's the same.

First oil change from factory fill, vehicle was purchased last year around the end of April. So some hot summer driving and a tiny bit of cold. Wife drives it primarily with a short 7 mile roundtrip to school first in the morning, then another 10 mile trip to work one way. So 70/30 in favor of...

NPR: 'Carolina Squat' vehicles are now illegal on North Carolina roads

That's your opinion, they can't account for the idiot not paying attention to stopped traffic going 65MPH. However mild crashes they do the deed just fine.

    Review: '21 Suburban Z71 (14,574 miles/6 weeks)

I used this button quite often on my rental Audi Q5. I feel because LED headlights are becoming such a standard they have "engineered" their need for separate fog lights out. It was a separate lens & LED's inside the headlight to mimic the fog lighting pattern. It did well in bad weather IMO

That is why these are mandatory now and have been for a while.

UOA for Hyundai Kona Electric, high aluminium and silicon levels

Isn't Silicon used in RTV sealants? Considering the really low hours this isn't even worth being concerned about.

    VW 508 question

Meanwhile I just had ours changed at 10,188 because of dealer scheduling issues instead of like 9,500. Didn't use any, the level stayed pretty consistent actually, I checked it fairly religiously over the summer when it started to creep past 5k miles. I did send a UOA off but it isn't back yet.

Is there any practical benefit to letting a passenger car oil warm up before driving?

Because it's been covered ad nauseum, the short answer is no, the longer more in-depth answer is No, nope, nada, no way, not even close. You need 10-15 secs and then go.

    2021 GM 3.6 recommendations

Not gonna lie, I'd hate the dealership too with that luck. I only had a VW dealer screw me once long ago and I said that tech will never touch the car again. Stripped the drain plug and said it was "My fault". Luckily I have no complaints for the Chevy dealer I take it to but I would certainly...

Can you have a failing o2 sensor with no check engine light?

Yes, had a bad Wideband Upstream O2 on the old Forester and it reeked havoc with HP & drivability. Never flashed a CEL just was lazy. Once replaced it was night & day, drove like a brand new car. It was always fairly weather dependent.

    2021 GM 3.6 recommendations

Just let the dealer do it, for $60 it makes no sense IMO for me to worry myself about it anymore. I can't buy the filter & 6 qts. of oil for that price and then have to go through the hassle of changing it myself. In the end the engine will last and based on my driving the OLM usually has me at...

    Considering a generator

I went with this only because I wasn't sure if I wanted to put the down the money for a stand alone whole house unit running on NG. I would only get a trifuel unit if I was going portable because if it really is a major power outage you still need electricity to pump propane into the tank and...
