    Amsoil shelf life

As a retired plastic packaging engineer I can tell you that the bottle is the weak link in long term stability. As the plastic ages, very tiny stress cracks form which makes a weakness in the bottle. After the cracks form, it takes surprisingly little disruption to open the crack. Even moving...

    Harley vs. Ducati

You need two bikes. A naked one for summer and a fully faired one for winter. I've been trying to pick one bike for many years .... too much compromise involved.

9MM Velocity in Pistol vs Rifle

I went through a pistol caliber carbine phase many years ago. If my memory serves, standard velocity calibers picked up about 150 fps in carbine length barrels and magnums gained 500 fps. The bullets are designed to perform best at handgun velocity so it's a good thing that the 9mm gains "only"...

    Nagant revolver

Remember you can shoot 32 H&R Magnums out of that revolver. 108 gr bullet going 1100 fps is a worthy round at close range. Not bad for a $100 gun!

Never using racetrack gas ever again

This reminds me of a problem my wife had at a local discount gas station. Her car ran like [censored]. They filled her car (and probably many others with diesel. The delivery vehicle filled the wrong tank at the station. The station paid for the tow and tank purging. Gas stations are only as...

Oil Cooler Added to 06 Brute 750

Well, you can definitely extend your OCI by 25%. Back in the day, guys would add sump capacity to older BMW motorcycles with the intent of using cooler oil. The oil was cooler by 10 or 15 degrees if memory serves. Nice to have but the engineers account for extremes in use. If you "abuse" your...

    Motorcycle cost per mile?

The most cost effective commuter is probably an electric bicycle. There are some great motors, batteries and bicycle designs that carry a lot of gear well. I wish I lived in a warmer climate and commuted shorter distances to work.

    Motorcycle cost per mile?

My experience is that tires prices for a motorcycle cost about .04/mile vs .02/mile for a car. My bike gets 43 mpg for .09/mile (.09 +.04=.13/mile) A car getting 35mpg is the same as a bike when you include rubber but then comes the big deal breaker .... motorcycle maintenance. BMW motorcycles...

    Refining Diesel

Valero is US owned ... [censored]. Maybe I shouldn't trust my sources but I thought Valero WAS foreign crude imported to US Refiners and that was why they had almost no alcohol. I heard Valero was owned by another country (I won't continue the rumor if it is not true). In NJ, they are the only...

Yes another dumb oil mixing question

Yes, I did the same thing when I found out how lame the GTX had become. It is formulated to the lowest end of the acceptable range which kind of ticks me off since they did not price the product accordingly. PYB is good stuff!

Many golfers have several sets of clubs. Most would love to sell you a set. Also, during your first season take the following clubs out of your bag: Driver and 3 iron. Buy "found" golf balls ... lots of em'
