Car and Driver tested the newer Xb out when it came out a year or two ago and it was the highest weight gain between two generations of a model that have ever tested (2300 lbs to near 3000 lbs). My winter bike/beater is a converted single speed. I can appreciate the simplicity of it mechanicals wise when something goes wrong. No derailer or cassette to fiddle with. I did about 20 miles on it last weekend and realized why I dig them so much. I just avoid major hills at all costs.

+1 for freewheels. I converted an older Schwinn mountain bike into a single speed and never looked back.

I'd recommend going with a Kryptonite. I've used one for over a year and never had a problem with it.

On Thanksgiving, I had a bottle of Golden Blonde Parish Ale from Paper City Brewing in Massachussets. It was a pretty straightforward pale ale but very tasty and went well with the tofu I cooked. For Christmas, I'll probably go with a bottle of Brooklyn Brewing Chocolate Stout.

If you want some quality house brand beer, I've heard nothing but good things about Trader Joe's brand beer.

The name of it escapes me but it is Chinese and has the rooster on the front of the bottle and a green top/cap.

I really like Beck's Dark. Haven't had the regular in awhile. I really wish they would put the Dark in cans like the regular stuff.

Fixed gear means pedaling down hills also. I'll stick to a single speed any day of the week!
