Why is it NOT OK for 0w40 in GM 5.3 engine?

I opted for the Carbyte over the range primarily because the range requires removing part of the inner wheel and plugging it into the computer harness. Not a hard job but a pain if I have to remove it to take it in to the dealer. The Carbyte just plugs into the obd port. After I bought it I...

Why is it NOT OK for 0w40 in GM 5.3 engine?

Thanks to all for the replies. I based my original decision to use the 0w40 on some info I got on this site. But a few mechanics and service folks said I was wrong. I appreciate your expertise and I’m totally comfortable with the 0w40. The FS version is now SQ certified and supposed to be Dexos...

Why is it NOT OK for 0w40 in GM 5.3 engine?

I have a 2024 Sierra 5.3 with a Carbyte dfm disabler and I’m using Mobil 1 FS 0w40 and a Mobil 1 oil filter. I opted for the 0w40 to hopefully protect the lifter assembly, though I’m not sure anything will help, and I’m not a believer in 0w20 oil. My theory is that since the valve/lifter...

2024 Sierra - changed rear differential and transfer case fluids

My 2024 Sierra 1500 with a g80 locker has 66,000 miles. Time for some work. The rear differential oil looked really clean but I replaced it with delvac 75/90 oil without the limited slip. I read that it had a reusable rubber gasket…not correct. So halfway through the job I went autozone and...

Early First Oil Change on New vehicle- Good Idea or Waste of Money?

Agreed. I always change oil in a new vehicle at 1,000 miles. Then at 2500 and then every 4-5,000 miles. Oil is a lot cheaper than an engine and I’ve driven several cars to 170,000+ miles with little to no oil usage. Great Job!!

To double drain and fill or not?

Based on an updated TSB from GM, I opted to change the atf in my 2023 traverse 9 speed to the Mobil 1 hd Dexos , eliminating the Dexos vi. I opted to do 3 drain and fill events, driving 10 miles between each one. The tech at a local Chevy dealer said that would replace 90-95% of the Dex vi. They...

    Saps and intake valve carbon

I’ve been using Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 in my 2023 traverse. I read today that it is a high saps oil and can crud up the intake valves. If true, why would GM give it Dexos approval? Should I switch to Mobil 1 ESP versions?

    2023 Traverse 9 speed question

I decided to switch to the Mobil 1 HD Dexron this week. A shop wants $350 to flush the transmission completely and I don’t have the equipment to do it myself. But, I feel that leaving the old Dexron vi in the transmission defeats the purpose of switching. So, my plan is: —drain and fill and...

To double drain and fill or not?

I’m switching to the Mobil 1 hp dexron. As such, I’ll do two drain and fills to get as much dexron vi out as possible. Some folks do three when switching types of fluid.

    2023 Traverse 9 speed question

GM has issued Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) related to transmission shudder in various models, including the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, which often require a transmission flush using Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP (commonly referred to as "blue label" fluid) to resolve torque converter shudder...

    2023 Traverse 9 speed question

It’s interesting and a bit confusing. On this site folks recommend Valvoline MaxLife, which I’ve used in the past and I know is good quality, or Dexron VI and not to use Mobil 1 Dexron blue label. Then, on the Traverse forum, Valvoline MaxLife is a no-no, and Dexron VI is not the best for the...

    2023 Traverse 9 speed question

My 2023 traverse has 33,000 miles and I’m going to change the atf next week The owners manual says dexron vi, but I’ve seen a lot of folks using Mobil 1 HP dexron, “blue label”. My research indicates that the GM dealers use the Mobil HP from bulk no name barrels to do flushes. It was...

0w20 or 0w30 for Turbo Charged GDI Engines?

I do the same thing. I found Valvoline on sale and bought three 5 quart jugs at the same time. The last One might not get used for 8-9 months.
