    Oil for modified EcoBoost

I’m curious why you say that? Is it because of the lower temps, too? After reading all these comments, I’m beginning to realize I’ve been more concerned about the “HS” part than the “HT” part.

    Oil for modified EcoBoost

I don’t have an exact reading of the oil temps, but this car does have a factory track pack, which includes an oil & trans cooler. Also, part of the mods include a lower degree thermostat, which, combined with the larger intercooler and true dual air intake system, lead to a VERY cool running...

    Oil for modified EcoBoost

I’m well aware of the transmission being a weak link. To help that out, I change out the fluid (~ 5.5 quarts) at each oil change. So far, so good. Now, back to those oil recommendations…

    Oil for modified EcoBoost

Hmm….interesting responses so far. There are definitely ones that I wasn’t anticipating. Things to keep in mind. Though I haven’t dyno’ed the car yet, my tuner feels it should be pushing right around the 500 HP level, so a strong oil with HTHS is vital.

    Oil for modified EcoBoost

Looking for input on which oil to start using: 2016 Ford Taurus SHO w/ the 3.5L TGDI V-6 EcoBoost engine. I have just finished modifying the engine to the point where I feel it is still going to my a reliable daily driver. This includes the following - Engine computer tune Replacement...

‘16 Taurus SHO Ecoboost barenaked pix

No problems from the tubes here. The engine in my car (and our Explorer, which I’ve also replaced the valve covers on) is transverse, compared to the “normal” fit for your truck. I don’t know if that could affect the spark plug tubes or not, but the back side valve cover on the Explorer was...

‘16 Taurus SHO Ecoboost barenaked pix

2016 Ford Taurus SHO 90,000 miles My car is tuned, and I’m in the process of replacing valve covers while finalizing the project with a new HP fuel pump and metal hot pipes for the turbos & intake. Since I pretty much have to disassemble most of the top side of the engine for all the pipes to...

Rockauto not for the OCD prone

I just ordered and received a 12-pack of Motorcraft FL-500S filters from RockAuto. Something like $4.xx a filter. Yes, they were sans individual boxes, but the sealed box they all came in had them separated by cardboard, and covered with bubble wrap. I was actually very impressed with the...

Updated spec oils in older spec engines

I never said one thing about timing chain wear. I never said one thing about wanting to still use SN rated oils. I never said one thing about price being related to oil specs. My original post is simply asking what, if any, benefit there is in using more expensive oils in older cars, when a...

Updated spec oils in older spec engines

Never said it did. The only price that I’m talking about would be SP Motorcraft compared to SP Castrol Edge, for example.

Updated spec oils in older spec engines

You clearly don’t understand what I’m trying to discuss. I couldn’t care less about SN not being available or obsolete. I am wanting to know what benefit there is to spending more money on a top-tier, advanced, modern motor oil when a lower-tier modern motor oil already exceeds the...

Updated spec oils in older spec engines

Just to clarify, I don’t want to limit this strictly to my engine and SN/SN+/SP oils. Those are simply my particular situation. I would like to discuss this for any/all engine and continually advancing oil specs. I definitely don’t want to compare SP to SN, either. I’m wanting to know why a...

Updated spec oils in older spec engines

Is it overkill using higher priced, top of the line, modern oils in engines that were designed/manufactured years ago under older, now outdated, specifications? For example - my engine is a 2016 Ford 3.5L Ecoboost. The oil spec in 2016 was SN. The industry has now gone through not just one, but...

The New Fram Extra Guard (Orange Can)

Good video for those that aren't familiar with the current design of the EG filter. But to clarify, that video was posted just over a year ago now, so it really isn't anything that "new". If your auto parts store still has any of the older design EG's in stock, you might want to consider...
