Post your latest small engine oil change

I’m not sure why they haven’t come up with a better solution over the years. Our newest ZTs have nice drain hoses but they aren’t quite long enough. The filters still make a monster mess. I just put as much pig mat under them as I can but it still finds its way onto the frame/ground. The best...

Post your latest small engine oil change

My grandpa bought a new 1987 417-A. That Kohler opposed twin was quite the engine. All I remember it requiring repair wise was one set of ignition points. When we traded it on his new ZT in 2008 the Hobbs showed 1980 hours. Did plow duty in the winter with a fabric cab. Mowed 2.5 acres. Not...

How often do you wash your car in an automatic car wash?

Our local chain does an excellent job so my truck goes through all the time. I hurt my previous truck more climbing around on it than the auto wash ever has. By 140k it did have some micro scratching on the lower sections but that was only visible in specific light situations. I figured if I...

How many people prefer to use the dealer for services while under factory warranty?

The local Ram dealers here are terrible. I only have one warranty issue approaching 60k miles. A leaky CV boot. Tried to get it in before PT warranty expires and everyone is too booked and difficult to deal with so I’ll just open it up and re grease/re clamp myself. Not worth the effort...

    21 Ram 5.7 53.4k mi; PP 5w-20 7.5k mi

Sweet, will check ‘em out. Yeah the first one was strictly to check how the oil performed in terms of TBN. I didn’t want to blindly trust to 10k the meter always seems to count down no matter how I drive. Could stretch it some but 7500 isn’t a short interval and seems to be treating the engine...

    21 Ram 5.7 53.4k mi; PP 5w-20 7.5k mi

21 5.7 Ram 1500. This is my 2nd UOA. I ran an initial UOA to determine TBN after a heavy use run. It had about 5k towing on the 7500 mile interval. TBN at 7500 was 2.1 on PP 5-20 running a Mopar filter. This sample was at around 53,400 and I shorted the OCI 500 miles or so because I was leaving...

    Mopar 75W85

I put Amsoil severe gear 75-90 in both of my diffs. Was going to try and do all Mopar because it’s still under power train warranty but the strike made it hard to find fluids. I was able to snatch the oddball transfer case fluid (it’s not really anything special but the only way to find it in...

    Interstate Battery

Agreed, but mostly true. Couldn’t think of anyone worse to source from than Exide. Rural King is Exide and I’ve seen tons of failures there personally. I quit buying them but my grandpa is a cheap skate and loves buying cheap batteries and frequent replacements.

    Interstate Battery

Interstate and duralast are manufactured by the same battery company. Likely the same battery but green instead of red. You want to look for a battery produced by east penn if you want something worth a crap.

    Honda HCF-2 UOA, 80 days - 5824 miles on a replacement CVT

We have a 2016 Civic and a few months ago I found the plug popped out. Noticed some wetness while I was doing a normal fluids check. No clue how long it was out but by the amount of fluid dripping down I assume not long or I would have seen drips on the garage floor. I changed the fluid...

    Mobil 1 0w-40fs flat tappet mercruiser 350

Yeah, not sure why they didn’t rollerize the marine engines(or the lightning for that matter). The Fords are much more tolerant on ZDDP vs the big block Chevy. I’ve fed many 351s a steady diet of T4. One of which has around 2500 hours on the camshaft/lifters (was reused after a rebuild). So...

    Mobil 1 0w-40fs flat tappet mercruiser 350

There was never a roller Windsor used in marine engines. I’ve been inside several GT40 PCMs myself. The blocks were roller capable but ran flat tappets (like the 351 in the lightning truck).

    Marine 454 UOA

Yeah, I’m not sure I can get it lower than 1%. It’s carbureted and the oil generally runs about 180 sump in normal use. It needs to be working really hard to get lots of temp in the oil. Conversely, it gets too hot sans cooler and any smaller cooler wouldn’t provide enough cooling in extreme...

    Marine 454 UOA

They do rough water much better than a Ski but still pretty meh compared to newer stuff. I have an 85 SN and have had many other 2001s over the years. Currently running a 351 in one of my BFNs just to get it usable for now. The Fords drink rotella conventional 15-40 and always have.

    Marine 454 UOA

These boats are extremely speed limited by the hull design and fixed shaft angle. More cubes can allow a nice low cruise rpm which is nice. This one will cruise at a much lower rpm than a small block making 150 less HP but it’ll actually turn more rpm’s WOT. Basically, for optimal performance...
