Maybe so. I did not ask them why. I just figured they knew best. I think that eventhough everything in my engine is new that the old design was not made for a slippery synthetic. Meaning if there is a leak path then it will find it.I don't think it is a myth that synthetic oil can make a engine...
I asked Ernie Elliott Inc., the builders of my 331 stroker, about what kind of oil to run in my new motor. They said 10W40 Havoline, Valvoline or Castrol. They said regular petroleum not synthetic. Man was I shocked.
My engine is all new but old style seals and what not. It does not have the design of a 4.6L. Newer engines are designed to not leak with synthetic. It is not a falacy that synthetic oil will make a car leak. Trust me it can make a car leak. It would kill me to see that thing spring a leak.
Good question it is hard. I have almost 500 miles on the motor but I wanted to break it in properly because it cost too much not to. It is amazing. I running a toploader 4-speed with a 3:25 gear and the rpms still tach up so fast. I would not want any lower gear because it spins so easy now in...
Robbie,
If you think about oil all the time then what synthetic oil should I use in my new 331 stroker motor with a roller cam. It turns about 10K rpms. I only drive the car on nice days and weekends but I will get on it as soon as I get a couple of miles on it. Redline, Amsoil, Mobil 1? What...
Hey look at what I wrote below. The thinner oil is better for the 4.6 SOHC motor however I had a 94 T-bird and it burned oil. I tried thicker oil but it did not help. This was after 100K miles. Does yours burn oil?
The reason why Ford is going to a lighter oil is partially due to the over head cam motors. The thinner the oil the faster it gets to the camshaft. The only way to really blow an overcam motor is to rev it when it is cold when there is no oil to lubricate is. Also the misconception of heavier...
On a serious note. I don't drive this car but on nice days and weekends but I will drive it hard occasionaly. What difference does it make how much it cost when you are putting 500 to 1000 miles on a car a year. I just wanted to see what the best protection for my engine would be. I think mobil...
