Disconnecting the MAF will "almost" shut off the EGR...it still will operate a very small amount. It is a single loop function, so it does not affect any other functions...the MAP sensor which measures "absolute pressure" will be the sensor that will help with fueling. We have an "ORM Board"...
If the 40W does better this time you might think about the 15W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel & Marine. The TBN is 12+ instead of the ~8 of the Euro Formula. I too tried the Series 3000 5W-30 in my Jeep Liberty CRD but I seem to be getting better mpg from the 15W-40. I haven't had time to run an UOA on...
I used the 5w-30 HDD with an EaA034 for nearly 6,000 miles. The 15W-40 seems to be making the engine run a bit quieter and is returning a bit better fuel mileage. The 40 weight is what is called for and it seems like there must be a godd reason ;-) . Now I can go 5,000 and send in a UOA to see...
If anyone is interested...I own the doamin name www.JeepDiesels.com . I have the www.LOSTKJs.com forum that has a big CRD Liberty Group. Anyway, I digress. I was using the HDD Series 3K 5W-30 in my CRD but recently switched to the AME 15W-40 and it looks like my mpg have increased a bit.
Sometimes "piston slap" is caused by wore wrist pins. I have pulled rod/piston out thru the bottom (oil pan off) and replaced the wrist pins...slipped them back up...fixed.
I was thinking in general about TBN numbers...and...as long as there is still positive Base Numbers in the oil it should still be able to counteract any acid numbers...true?
The 15W-40 is closer to the 5W-40 "DC" oil suggested. The AME has a 12 TBN, so I am going to use this and see how it does...if it works fine I will save a small bit of change.
Thanx for both the feedbacks!
Sample was taken after engine had cooled down slightly. It might have been takes a bit too early in the drain...only removed 1/2 quart total. Amsoil EA034 Oil Filter with Amsoil 5W-30 Series 3000 HDD. Changed the air filter to Amsoil EaA201 after 1,200 miles on used OEM air filter.
