Chipped and racetrack? Go for that 10w50, but I'd go with 5w40 for the rest of the year. I know that engine, will be ok. You can also use 5w50 since 10w would be just a bit too thick for "cold"starts. Also when temperatures drop a bit you wont think so much that it is too thick ;-)

Passat turbo... 1.8t? Use real synth pao or good GpIII, 5w40 with possibly high cst and hths and high flash point. Using conventional is asking for sludge. GpIII means frequent oci.
