Anyone using the Fram Tough Guard?

I've used several of them. I also cut each filter open. I have 298,000 on my V6 Ford Ranger, and it still runs very good. I normally use Wix, Fram Tough Guard, and Purolator One. All of these are better than the cheaper Fram.

FRAM TOUGH GUARD TG3614 CUT OPEN!

Get them at Walmart. They have very good prices and a few other brands. Walmart also has a premium version of their house brand Supertech. I've cut those open and the quality is good.

    FRAM XG7317 CUT OPEN

The pictures reveal a history of poor maintenance. Please realize: A dirty engine from poor maintenance will contaminate the new engine oil, and will clog the oil filter. The solution: More oil and filter changes. If the oil gets dirty and dark, change it. Don't go by miles alone to determine...

    Engine Flush

Use a 500 to 1000 mile oil change, use Synthetic blend for less cost, add about 6 ounces of either Essentialube, Lucas Motor Treatment, Marvel Ultimate, or Marvel Mystery oil to the crankcase. Put some in the fuel also, so the top ring is treated. All of these are designed to be run in the...

    Accidental extreme OCI

If using an engine cleaner like Lucas Engine treatment, I would change the filter early. More like 100 miles, not 10. With just motor oil, I would say 500 to 1000.

    Accidental extreme OCI

Now just change the oil more often until the oil stays clean. Use at least a quart of high mileage oil at each change. Service the other fluids in the vehicle, and don't forget the fuel filter! Some Marvel Ultimate would be great for the fuel and the engine oil.

‘91 Chevy K1500 5.7L TBI with auto trans and 4x4 fluid change

Amsoil makes a 75w-110 gear oil. This may be perfect for long gear life and a little better mileage. Consider Bestline engine and trans treatment. This is your chance to use the good stuff, not just any old stuff. Lubricants have come a long ways since that vehicle was made. Good luck.

‘91 Chevy K1500 5.7L TBI with auto trans and 4x4 fluid change

I suggest using high mileage motor oil plus one quart of Amsoil signature or their OEM synthetic. Run this with a Wix filter for 3000 miles max. Suction out power steering fluid and use Dexron III which supersedes Dexron II. Buy Amsoil in a quantity to get free shipping and to have enough of...

    M1 AFE 0W16, 5178 mi OCI, 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid A25A-FXS

With all due respect, 10 to 12K oil change intervals are a sales gimmick. If the oil looks dirty, it is. And it is contaminated with raw fuel and burned fuel, along with some oxidation and dirt. Poor fools will wait 10,000 or more miles because they don't know any better, and they don't have...

Viscosities of various 0W20 and 5W20 oils

Take a look at viscosity index number next time. And volatility, which will affect viscosity over time.

Please rank these oils for my upcoming OCIs

Each brand may have a different amount of anti-wear or anti corrosion or anti-foam, etc. Probably not a big difference, but Havoline and Pennzoil have been tested in Taxi fleets with excellent results. I would say the right fuel additive may boost the wear protection, especially on the cylinders...

Synthetic blend with the highest synthetic oil concentration?

First of all Synthetic blend is not the "new conventional oil". It is almost always a Group II mixed with Group III base oils. Then an additive package is selected by the blender, and is mixed in. You will have to ask the company about what ratio is used. The most economical way to boost the...

    MMO in fuel success stories

I use it during cold months, even with synthetic motor oil. Not more than 1 ounce per quart. TT fuel can benefit from the lubrication quality of MMO. The fuel injectors and upper cylinders will benefit. The key is using a small amount often, or a similar product.

    Marvel mystery oil in fuel

Using MMO every other fill up is an excellent way to extend the life of the rings and cylinders. And MMO will be neutral or help the crankcase oil as it is forced into and past the piston rings. Some chemicals in strong fuel additives will adversely affect the motor oil in the ring-cylinder...

Marvel mystery oil and similar fuel additives and octane?

Lower octane fuel is more oily, such as Diesel fuel or JP5 (which is used on Navy fork lifts and machinery). Higher octane fuels are less oily and more evaporative and thinner in consistency, such as Aviation gasoline. 87 gasoline vs 91 results from such a refinement, and is not the result of an...
