Where to grease poly bushings - so much conflicting info, let's settle this once and for all!

Btw, if you want a detailed explanation of how a suspension bushing works here is a grease overview from a pro fabricator:

Where to grease poly bushings - so much conflicting info, let's settle this once and for all!

Simple question: what is the correct grease application for polyurethane bushings? It's a simple question, but gawd, there is so much conflicting information out there, even from the **** manufacturers... For reference, here are some control arm suspension poly bushings: A: INSIDE of bushing...

Clean fasteners without damaging protective plating?

That's what I've been doing but it takes forever if you're doing a big job and literally hand brushing 50 fasteners... have a bench grinder sitting there which would take seconds, so trying to figure out how to speed up my workflow :P

Clean fasteners without damaging protective plating?

Do you use a nylon bristle brush on the bench grinder? Looks like Nyalox and a few other brands make nylon abrasive brushes (nylon bristles with aluminum oxide friction impregnation). I'm guessing if I use the finer (240 or 120 grit) then it would clean up bolts nicely and not damage the...

Clean fasteners without damaging protective plating?

Curious what you use instead? Nylon abrasive brushes?

Clean fasteners without damaging protective plating?

Almost always when working on vehicles you need to clean the threads of an old fastener, especially if you're re-applying loctite. Using a bench grinder with a steel wire wheel works real good but the steel very quickly strips off the protective zinc or nickle plating on the fastener - the bolt...

Bilge/Sump pump - dielectric mineral oil?

What the heck is 'dielectric mineral oil'? How is it different from generic mineral oil? Some context to my question: Had some oil leak out of my 1/6 HP HomeDepot brand sump pump. Called their help line and they said it takes 'dielectric mineral oil'. They couldn't tell me anything around...

Can someone explain the chemistry around adding Isopropyl Alcohol to water contaminated gasoline - why does this help?

So there are many products on the market sold as fuel additives; some (like 'Heet' brand) are nothing more than 99.9% isopropyl alcohol in a nice package. When trying to understand how they work and what they actually do you hear vague things like "Removes water in fuel. The alcohol will bond...

Boeshield T9 MSDS - trying to understand chemicals and their uses

Been trying to educate myself on common chemicals I see in various MSDS's, curious question on Boeshield T9: For context, Boeshield is a corrosion inhibitor developed by Boeing. Seems to be something a lot of folks use to protect tools, etc. Here is the MSDS: First question, what...

Waterproof Grease --Aluminum or Calcium Complex

Look at the water washout rating. Usually ASTM D-1264: "Water Washout @ 79°C (175°F), loss, weight %" Here are the rating for some of the greases mentioned from their Technical Data Sheets: Bel-ray waterproof grease: 4.2 % Lucas marine: 2.75 % Lucas X-tra heavy duty: 10.0% Also look at copper...

What's so special about 'marine' grease?

Looking at the SDS for Lucas marine grease: Looks like it's calcium soap based grease; specifically a Calcium Sulfonate based grease. Found a good article comparing Lithium soap vs Calcium Sulfonate: https://www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/29658/multi-purpose-grease "Unlike...

What's so special about 'marine' grease?

This is a snowmobile trailer, so no salt water immersion like a boat would see. Having said that, it does see lots of off-pavement driving, plenty of muddy/snowy logging roads with creek crossings and such. You are right in that X-tra Heavy Lucas is polyurea based grease. I do remember reading...

What's so special about 'marine' grease?

But what properties does it have that make it 'military grade'?? :P

What's so special about 'marine' grease?

Looking for a high quality grease for use on truck suspension parts (ball joints, greasable control arms, etc) as well as trailer bearings. For trailers everyone seems to suggest 'marine' grease. Trying to figure out how it is different from other grease?? Looking at some of the marketing for...
