Anyone actually have good service from a late model Nissan with CVT?

202,225 in a 2012 Altima 2.5 No idea if or when the CVT was ever serviced. Edit: this is my cousin's personal vehicle, his business vehicle that I usually drive is a 13 Malibu with 192k on the clock. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Nissan feels like it held up better than the Chevy.

    1985 MB 190D 2.2

The only Mercedes diesels around in my area are the old om617s, anything that would be in the om60x family is either already blown up or pulled before I have a chance to grab it. That and going from 72 horsepower to 120 with a solid drivetrain that was just taking up space seems like a...

    1985 MB 190D 2.2

Yup, courtesy of Valvoline. Last time the oil was changed I ended up bringing it in due to the fact that both the garage at my house and the garage at my stepfather's (where the car is currently sitting) were Frozen shut. 1,475 miles in to a 6000 oci, she let loose at cylinder number 3. What...

    1985 MB 190D 2.2

My little one is currently undergoing surgery..... Since the 2.2 was only sold in the states for 2 years, there was nothing in my area as a proper replacement. On the plus side I did have a Volvo aq131 engine and Volvo 240 trans just laying around.

    Alternator or Battery?

Also, upgrading the puny ground cable from the alternator to the block to 4 gauge will be quite beneficial. If you are interested in a swap that will net you better low RPM charging capabilities, the Ford 3G swap would definitely be worth looking into, you can even swap the OE dual belt pulley...

    Alternator or Battery?

@Passport1 if the bearings are smooth and the slip rings are still in good condition, you could easily replace the voltage regulator. The oe Bosch alternators easily outlast the remans from the box store. This is what I used for my 100 amp in the 240, and the whole alternator is now transplanted...

Goodyear Reliant Tires for the kid

My first experience with that tire was on a 2006 crown Vic interceptor that was used as a taxi. I ran them on the Volvo 240 and the Mercedes 190d. (both as a staggered setup) as a cheap "performance" all season I was pretty impressed with them except for tread life. On the Volvo, they lasted...

What is it with the Northeast and missing gas pump auto-hold tangs?

It's hit and miss in my area. Stewart's and fastrac locations sometimes still have the auto hold tangs. Indy stations usually do.

Does standing start acceleration even matter?

My wife and I drove down to the greater Boston/Salem area for a week. Driving the Dakota on the highway in that area was full of WOT on the highway. The 89 f150 I used to have had a tired junkyard 302 (originally had a 351w) mated to a c6 with a lazy 3.08 rear ratio when I first bought it, I...

Looking for tires for the Neon

OP, perhaps give these a try? I put a pair on the front of the 190d on 03/09/23. (In the oe 175/70/14, but they were within a few dollars of your size) even though they are about as inexpensive as you can get, I'm thoroughly impressed with them so far...

Looking for tires for the Neon

The broken belts that I saw on customer cars (and my own as well) occurred mostly on heavier cars like the gm w body, ford Taurus/sable, gm cuvs and by a wide margin Mopar minivans. (Poor tread life was across the board) The local roads don't help, but these are very bottom of the barrel, in my...

Looking for tires for the Neon

I have experience with the Douglas all seasons on a wide range of vehicles. I personally don't like them them, due to the fact that I always seem to end up with at least one with a broken belt. On top of that, Even on the front of my 85 Mercedes 190d, (a rear wheel drive car that only weighs...

RWD? FWD? AWD? What's best in snow, by how much?

To me it feels like going from 5th to 3rd on the highway.

RWD? FWD? AWD? What's best in snow, by how much?

On a side note, one thing that I see that equally amuses and frustrates me. Living 8 miles from an army base (and 35 miles to the Canadian border) I frequently see tires on vehicles that have no business being on the road during the winter. The main categories are rwd cars with high performance...
