I will add, M+H never did anything substantial to fix the problem. By giving the filters a new paint scheme and packaging, they just put lipstick on a pig. Then ADBVs were observed with cuts, and so on.

I prefer to use a filter cutter because you get a clean cut in a short amount of time. However, I have seen people use a hack saw with good results. They cut along the seam at the base plate. It helps if you have a vice to hold the filter steady.

Over the last 50 years, I have probably had 5-6 gaskets stick to the filter mount. If a gasket sticks, I get a shop towel and wet it with brake cleaner and give the filter mount a good cleaning. I also check to see where the old gasket is before installing the new filter.
