Oil for 15 year old Ranger with 73k

Thank's for all the reply's. I think I am going to go with the Motorcraft, now I just have to make up my mind between 10w40 and 10w30. I am leaning towards 10w30 though, just because here in Rhode Island it does not usually get that hot, and in the winter it is not uncommon to go into the low...

Oil for 15 year old Ranger with 73k

I recently picked up a 1991 Ford Ranger 3.0 v6 with 73,000 miles. The truck was used to tow a boat and for local erands. It runs great and seems to use no oil. The previous owner used Fram filters and changed the oil with whatever dino oil that was on sale. There was no real interval, just when...

Expand the GC Forum to include all Euro-made oils?

I think that is a GREAT idea!! I have been very interested in Pentosin 5w40 or possibly the 10w40 syn blend for my Passat, but there is not much info on it. It would be nice to have a place to share ideas about these thicker oils that some of our European cars like!! Let's do it.

For you Redline users, do you like it?

I may have not been clear with my post, I have no evidence thst RL is not a great oil, I just like that my car is quieter on start-up with Dino, it makes me feel all warm and fuzy!

For you Redline users, do you like it?

I would have to agree with Fuelman, I tried Redline in my Passat with un-exceptional results. It always had a lot of cam chain noise when I first started it in the morning, now with Formula Shell 10w40 it will only make the noise for a split second or sometimes not at all. Overall the engine...

1999 VW PASSAT W/ LEAKING CAM SEAL

Just an update, I am now about 700 miles into my Auto-rx treatment and the leak from the cam seal is still gone! I am keeping my fingers crossed that this will permanantly fix the leak. I also think that I will stay with dino oil after my two runs with ARX, probably Havoline. Any suggestions on...

    Not happy with M1 EP

Aside from running no oil at all, the Ford 2.3/2.5 4cyl OHC motors are totaly bulletproof. I would put money on them being as good as anything from Toyota, Honda, etc. I am familiar with the rattle noise that you are speaking of. It happens when the RPM's are coming down with no load on the motor...

1999 VW PASSAT W/ LEAKING CAM SEAL

Thank's for the pic!! That would make sense, if there was gunk built up around the coil spring and the Auto-RX cleaned it out, it would have a tighter seal. I am just surprised at how quickly it worked! I don't know if it has stopped leaking, but I don't get the oil burning smell or drips on the...

1999 VW PASSAT W/ LEAKING CAM SEAL

I recently purchased a used 1999 VW Passat that ran synthetic for the first 4 years of it's life then was switched to regular old Dino. When I bought it I switched to Red Line 10w40. It then developed an oil leak at the right cam seal within about 1,000 miles. I ran the Red Line for about 4,000...
