Victa model 500 twin cylinder lawnmower.

Is that air intake plumbing running up the handle? Likely so that it inhales cleaner air away from the engine…interesting design features. Probably a smooth running motor. Nice.

Castrol GTX HM 10W-40 $1.65/qt AAP

Finally found the website with the details of the rebate processing. Status said “Payment Processed” (or something like that) on 20 MAR. So probably not much longer. I almost forgot about this rebate.

Castrol GTX HM 10W-40 $1.65/qt AAP

Did anyone get the rebate for the Castrol purchase? I think it’s been 8-10 weeks X 2 already! What is the form of rebate? AAP gift card?

    2014 Odyssey Sludge/Varnish

Good discussion here. As another data point, our 06 Odyssey EX-L (with VCM Enabled always) has no oil sludging issues whatsoever with 188+K miles. Runs fantastic. Have done 36 oil changes to date. Average OCI is roughly 5200 miles (almost always do the oil change when OLM reads 30-40%)...

    Looks like someone you know?

Ha!!! That’s hilarious. Coincidentally, at work this morning, I spotted an “Expectant Mother” sign in the parking lot. Was a new sign, and had never seen one in the parking lot in my almost 30 years there.

    Dollar Tree Yesterday

Agree that the woman’s behavior in the OP was abhorrent, particularly with daughters in tow (nice to pass that behavior down). But this, and general begging, and sense of entitlement is nothing new. Someone well known once said “The poor you will always have with you”. Watch old movies. Andy...

Had to buy another car #11. Can you blame me?

Very sharp wagon. Really good looking. Love those seats!

    Crazy dealer add on

Different in that the brake flasher add-on is more of a strobe effect (and very annoying, particularly when it is behind a brake-pedal happy person who likes to tap their brakes in traffic every few seconds), whereas the Mustang sequential turn signals are not annoying and pleasant to view. In...

Old School Car Battery Tester-Always wanted one of these

Actually only 10 seconds maximum recommended testing duration. But 5 seconds of testing feels like an eternity and seems like plenty of time to run the test. It does get toasty warm, but cools off quickly too.

Old School Car Battery Tester-Always wanted one of these

Exactly right about that Voltage reading only telling part of the story. The questionable Volvo branded battery i have sitting in the garage read “good” on the initial voltage until I pushed the “Test” button. Within two seconds, the sweep gage drops into the “weak” telling the true condition...

Old School Car Battery Tester-Always wanted one of these

Just bought one of these on clearance at WalMart last night. Deltran Battery Tester PN 026-0020 (old fashioned kind that uses a resistance coil to load the battery). Caveman simple, effective, and quick. Probably super reliable. Just cracked open the box this evening and went around the...

Second Batch of Kraut - Underway!!

Wow. Never made own kraut before. Now i can’t stop thinking about making the next batch of smoked kielbasa!

    Oil filter shelf life

It’s really a good question, particularly for the cheaper filters (i.e. marketed as 5000 mile OCI), that are typically cellulose based filter media and strictly nitrile ADBV. I have been quite surprised at how brittle the used media on some cheaper filters are. Likewise with unused filters...

    5000 mile oil filters

This(torn filter) is more likely to happen with a 5000 mile rated filter. This one is a Carquest R84356 off an ‘06 Nissan Sentra that was run too long (something like 10K miles). Two of the pleats on each side of the crimp are folded over (torn on the end caps) and each pleat has a tear along...

Is this amount of crud in an oil filter normal? What’s in your filter?

After doing a full Volvo PCV system replacement and cleaning the engine ports with a brass “pipe” brush, the engine is still putting out some crud. After putting it back together, put in some Traveller straight 30 weight HD into the Volvo 2.5T. Despite the cold temps, the engine didn’t...
