I'm at 100K miles now with my car; so 30K with the current fill of Redline MT-90 and the shifting is just awful. It takes awhile to get into gear and it feels very notchy in the process. Can I hide this problem somehow with a thicker oil? My tranny requires GL-4 75W-90 per VW.
Thanks
For the initial cleaning phase I ran M1 0w-40, then for the rinse phase I used normal Pennzoil 5w-30. I just changed back to M1 yesterday and the engine is noisier and not as smooth at idle as compared to the dino oil. The performance is excellent though. Should I put in a different synthetic...
I'm in the same boat, I'm just about finished with the cleaning phase, but I don't want to put in a dino oil. I normally wouldn't mind, however, it's winter here and I don't want too much start-up wear and tear (because the dino oil can't flow as well). Can anyone confirm this?
I just put in RL MT-90 a week ago and the shifting is tenfold improved. Thanks for the recommendations. Initially though, the first few days, it was very difficult to shift, then one cold day it was possible to shift with relative ease. I guess the fluid had to break in or something.
It has a timing belt actually. I'll try changing the filter tomorrow. If it is the filter wouldn't I get a low oil pressure signal and a DTC(Diagnostic Trouble Code)? I checked for DTC's, no faults found.
I tried to reproduce the engine knocks under similiar conditions today, but they didn't...
I just ran an application of Berrymans in my last tank full. Maybe it dislodged something and it lodged in the injector. I'd say the sound was half way between sharp and dull. Thanks
Keep in mind this is a really sporadic occurence. I've started the engine warm a lot without this happening. Rickey, I like your leaking fuel injector theory. Does the frequency of this occurence support it? I am already using premium BTW. Would the temperatures get that high at startup? I'm...
The filter is located on the bottom of the engine. So wouldn't gravity prevent the oil from draining back? The filter is Mann. Thanks.
Oil was changed about 1K ago.
My engine has only done this twice, but two times too much. When I start the engine, it makes about four knocking sounds in 1-2 seconds. Like: ta-ta-ta-ta. It occurs when the engine is warm. As I said, it has only happened twice, but most recently today and it has me worried. The oil level is...
Looks like I'll be doing this soon. I have never bleed the brakes. The dealership(s) insist that it's a "lifetime" fill and they only have to top it off at every service. They said they same thing about my coolant and gear oil.
gtx510,
Yeah, I'm in Germany. I didn't even occur to me to look at the "local" market given the usually high prices. I already ordered Redline MT-90. I'll try one of those Liqui-Molys if I don't like the Redline's performance.
Mechtech2,
When I shift I have to wait half a second for the gear...
