Can oil analysis determine if the previously used gear oil was yellow metal safe?

I bought a 1953 M38A1 with the same transmission as that cj5 a few months ago. The previous owner had the trans professionally rebuilt by a mechanic I was familiar with. Well, I was checking the level since it's been leaking a little when its hot. Gear oil was full of brass particles. It could...

    Mosin Nagant Prices

I remember a time when cabelas had racks upon racks of mosin nagants for sale. They were only $90 a piece. If you bought one, they’d bring out a bin of bayonets and try them all till one fitted. In hindsight, I wish I looked at every single one for threaded scope mount holes. I also should...

1953 Jeep M38A1, F134. Unknown oil, unknown miles on oil

‘74 CJ5 (304), ‘63 CJ5, and ‘53 M38A1 I run VR1 in the ‘74 since despite its crazy low miles, it never sat for very long and had regular oil changes. My grandfather bought it new in 1974. The ‘63 CJ5 has not be touched much and sits more. I also don’t know much about its history. I’ll likely...

1953 Jeep M38A1, F134. Unknown oil, unknown miles on oil

More than likely. This one will be lucky if it sees 500 miles a year. My ‘63 CJ5 is lucky if it sees 100 miles a year. It doesn’t get driven on the road (yet). I might suck some oil out for a sample out of curiosity.

1953 Jeep M38A1, F134. Unknown oil, unknown miles on oil

The oil sucked out of the filter housing was glittery. The engine head was replaced by the previous owner 2 years ago. Unsure of oil age. Maybe break in on the head? Replaced oil with Valvoline premium blue 15w-40. The engine does not smoke. Decent compression.

Would blackstone oil analysis tell me if used gear oil was yellow metal safe?

I'm going to replace the gear oil in the transmission/transfer case on my dad's '63 CJ5. No one knows when it was changed since it was originally my grandfather's. To give you an idea, the differential oil was black. It doesn't see much use and only drives around the farm. I noticed driving it...

Oil additive to clean out sludge and deposits

That first oil analysis did not have 875 miles on it. No clue how many miles were on that oil. Odometer was at 875 miles.

    1974 BMW R60/6

True mileage. Never rebuilt. It was my grandfathers. It sat A LOT. It sat for about 20 years before I got it.

    1974 BMW R60/6

The oil analysis before this one had no additive.

    1974 BMW R60/6

1300 miles on the bike. 300 miles on the oil. Oil was very dark. Liqui Moly 4T 20w50 with Lucas ZDDP additive. Engine had some sludge in it, frequent oil changes for cleaning.

Oil additive to clean out sludge and deposits

Despite the oil filter looking like that, Blackstone report looks pretty good. That Lucas oil ZDDP additive really has some Zinc and Phosphorus in it thats for sure. It also raised the TBN. Should I continue to use it?

Extending life of gasoline by storing under argon

Snowbaum’s articles are very informative but a LOT to read. I was actually trying to buy an ‘78 R100s. That’s the one that will likely need it then.

Extending life of gasoline by storing under argon

I already have a cheap inert gas available. Argon from my welder.
