I thought I'd give GC a try for the summer in my 05 S4

I was due for a change and put 9.5 qts. of GC in my 4.2L V8. The thing is, I had one 04 GC (green) and one or two gold (but without the caustic smell) and the rest were gold WITH the caustic smell (at least to me). Now, obviously I want to know if these are all compatible. Why the differences in...

Any guesses as to weight weight and brand will be factory fill for the new Z06?

I'm going to guess the 0W-40 they have. It's not as readily available but you CAN get it and I think that weight would suit the car, probably. I think, and if I'm mistaken let me know, that the Viper comes w/ 0W-40.

Any guesses as to weight weight and brand will be factory fill for the new Z06?

Whatever weight they choose I don't think it will be dino oil as every regular 'ole vette comes filled w/ M1 5W-30. I don't think they would put a lesser oil in their flagship performance car.

Hey, the green GC isn't so unique...I found another green oil

So a dye could stand up to the temps, pressure and destructive environment of a car engine? It doesn't break-down and form some type of residue? If they are using dyes to color the oils then I vote for a hot pink or fuscia.

Any guesses as to weight weight and brand will be factory fill for the new Z06?

The 7.0L 500hp monster is on its way and GM fills its Vette's w/ M1 5W-30. I'm wondering if that is up to the task of this motor? My friends Durango 5.7L Hemi recommends 5W-20 which, excuse me, but I can't see as being a good oil for this torque strong engine on a hot summer day pulling a boat...

How come everyone on here says diesel engines are harder on oil than gas?

You can't compare an engine from 1982 to todays engines. It is night and day. I think even more so in the modern diesel vs. old diesel as opposed to modern gas vs. old gas engines. Diesels have come a long way, baby!

Help...Can anyone recommend a good oil

With all the info on synthetic oils that have been very much in the general car public for years, why anyone would use anything other than a synthetic is beyond me. Unless you have a mazda rotary where synthetic is not recommended (although syn has been tested in that engine and has done well) I...

Hey, the green GC isn't so unique...I found another green oil

Sorry, pscholte. You know I didn't mean that. Sometimes you say things that you wish you could just take back. I meant the frenchie elves stole it from the germans. They probably sent a Brigitte Bardeaux little fox elf spy over there and "coerced" the formula out of Klaus VonCastrol.

Hey, the green GC isn't so unique...I found another green oil

Do you think the green tint has anything to do w/ the PAO's? I haven't heard of any ester based oils having this color. Or maybe it is the combination of PAO and ester.

What about the elf family/spy theory?

Hey, the green GC isn't so unique...I found another green oil

I chose MOTUL X-cess 5W-40 as my summer oil. It's a really good, shear-stable PAO. And guess what? The oil has the same deep emerald green tint when looking through the opening at an angle. Maybe it has something to do w/ the PAO's. Maybe they are similar formulations. Or maybe the elves...

So, TooSlick aside, which oil would YOU choose.

Took a sniff of the gold stuff; Man, it smells caustic!

I just bought a bottle of the GC 0504 for my GF's VW as a top up and (this is weird), it had a green tinge in the bottle and didn't smell foul like some other 05 batches. The weird part is that another 0504 DID have the amber color and foul stench of death.

First off, I am not spreading "wrong information". I simply got the two Castrols mixed up. It was presented to me, however, the SLXII, as an example of the GC when I was researching whether it was a good oil for my car. Man, you guys get testy fast around here. Sorry for making a mistake.
