Hmmm.....so I could consider switching to the 0w30 ESP then. I was very worried about the LSPI considering the 2.7 pushes 27lbs of boost and it loves to lug (tuned that way) at super low rpms.
I was too worried about that a month or 2 ago when changing the oil in my 2.7 Silverado and went with the ESP 5w30.
I hear over and over again how Calcium causes LSPI and the fact that it was API SL worried me.
It seemed like the consensus was that Castrol Edge black bottle sucks and that I was stepping up with the ESP 5w30 with ESP 0w30 being the "best"
I am ok with better not best if that makes sense. I think the slightly increased viscosity and HTHS is a benefit while still being Group III like the...
Just to follow up on this thread that I started...........
Flushed the Castrol Edge 5w30 out of the Silverado today and ended up replacing with the Mobil 1 ESP 5w30.
My rational is that the API SQ labeled bottles finally showed up at my local Walmart. I am not concerned with the Phosphorus...
I agree, however my question is why specifically the Edge Euro K is so low compared to other Castrol products using the same D93 test.
Edge Euro A3/B4 is 210c and Edge Dexos is 225c. The Edge Euro K is 196c which is one of the lowest I have seen. Is their a special additive causing this?
I...
So I guess what I am trying to ask is why regular Dexos Edge is 225c but the Euro is 196c using the same testing method. What is in the formula that is lowering that number.
I do like tbe fact that the Castrol has more manufacurer approvals and recommendations then the Mobil 1 product. I...
FWIW the Mobil 1 0w30 and 5w30 "meet or exceed" the requirements of API SP while the Castrol Euro K is API SQ approved.
Still looking for help with understanding the underwhelming flash point of the Castrol.
So I guess the recommendations are to use the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 over the 5w30 flavor.
Castrol Euro does not offer an API SP 0w30, only the 5w30 "K"
I guess a while ago I moved from a Pennzoil guy to a Castol guy. Have 175,000 trouble free miles running GTX High Mileage in the Ford Transit which...
Still pondering final oil options for the 2.7 L3B in my 2025 Silverado.
Mobil 1 ESP or Castrol EDGE Euro K would be my 2 choices if I go non-Dexos while in warranty.
I am still a noob trying to see the benefits/differences with these 2 oils. I did notice the Castrol has a really low flash...
I am a huge fan of the Premium Guard manufacture filters. As far as brands, you can get an STP XL from AutoZone, Carquest EP from Advanced Auto Parts, or Micro Guard Select from O'Reilly's and you should be good to go.
Why not split the difference and go with a quality 5w30 oil? There are so...
LOL, i just got back to this thread and realized I fat fingered 0w30 instead of 5w30. To be clear the current fill is Castrol EDGE Black Bottle 5w30.
The rationale to me was when I was at the store this was the only thing on the shelf that met the new API SQ rating and was also D1G3. Now there...
The Castrol Edge 0w40 M is also new. This page used to only have the 4 Mobil 1 oils.
I see the Castrol Dexos R on the Castrol website, Pennzoil doesn't even list that they have an API SQ oil on their website.
