    Leaking bottles of oil?

conveniently, they do sell oil in 5 quart jugs :3 i like to keep a few empty jugs around, good for emptying the drain pans into! but they're also ideal if you need a jug to put some extra oil in, or for a top-off container to fill from one of the 12qt bibs.

    Ring Deposits

actually the problem is a lack of drainback holes in the oil control ring land, combined with the propensity of many saturn owners to be cheap with their oil choice/defer oil changes excessively. saturns don't use low-tension piston rings. (note, i am talking about the saturn s-series, anything...

    mobil 1 european car formula - 0w40 vs 5w40?

update on the oil availability... last time i went by, they had both the 5w40 and the 0w40 on the shelf. several jugs of 0w40 too, i'm happy to say! i prefer the 0w40 so that's what i got. interesting that the walmart in question never used to carry that oil and now they do, but hey, i'm not...

    What oil do you use?

mobil 1 0w40, great in the cold and still not too thin when hot. best of all worlds imo and it certainly meets the spec. same price as mobil 1 5w30 or 5w40 at walmart too

    Ring Deposits

snake oil if you ask me, the saturn 1.9 is renowned for burning oil due to deposits in the oil control ring lands, and geniuses saying "oh it's burning oil let's buy the cheapest conventional for top-up and never change it" really exacerbates the problem. the only truly effective way i've found...

Gasoline Direct Injection causes Chain Wear, Fuel Dilution, and Low Speed Pre-ignition (LSPI)?

without a doubt. i always find an engine wakes up and really starts running nicely after a few good spirited pulls on the highway, especially if it's been getting a lot of short trips/incomplete warmup cycles. gdi or not, the heat absolutely does get things all nice and loosened up.

Gasoline Direct Injection causes Chain Wear, Fuel Dilution, and Low Speed Pre-ignition (LSPI)?

not an oem part but one time a friend got a replacement timing chain that was missing 3 rollers... installed fine, ran great, then it absolutely destroyed the crank and rod bearings when the missing rollers generated a bunch of metal shavings and those got pumped through the whole engine! great...

Who's right? (or closer to right): Oil specification for my old Fiat Abarth, 5w40 or my new Honda SI, 0w20?

it's definitely the 20 that gets me, 0w40 is my favourite oil! sae20 is just too thin of an operating viscosity.

    AMSOIL S.S.

i'm pretty sure the 50k was referring to the car, not the oil! lol :P

    mobil 1 european car formula - 0w40 vs 5w40?

i don't think that's likely, particularly given that the 0w40 does list acea a3/b4. presently unexplained though it may be, i suspect there is some reason the 0w40 lists that spec but the 5w40 does not. i certainly would love to know what that reason is!

What weight oil over and over

am i correct in saying that only ilsac oils bear the api "for gasoline engines" starburst? i edited my prior post to clarify that i'd thought that was the determining factor.

What weight oil over and over

it appears you are correct about that, this article discusses the matter pretty thoroughly. i actually thought it had to do with whether the bottle bears the api "for gasoline engines" starburst symbol... perhaps that is also tied to whether the oil meets a specific ilsac grade, though...

    When to change my oil?

it does drain down a lot faster when it's hot. i used to change my oil regardless of temperature, then i got some blackstone uoa kits and they clearly state that you should get your sample with the oil hot. when i started collecting samples, i noticed how much faster the oil drains out while...

Oil Brand Marketing, Perception and Reputation

with how aggressive some of the members on here are, i don't suppose i'm particularly surprised... i never expected that people would tell me i have no idea what i'm talking about, when i stated the simple fact that 0w20 is about fuel economy rather than engine durability! to any experienced...
