Which would you pick from new Elantra SE, Jetta SE, or Malibu LS

Based on the choices we were offered, I assume you're on a budget. In all honesty, all three suck! For about the same money I'd go any Toyota , Honda, or Subaru you could afford. Lots of Subbies in out family and they all go 250-350 K miles before they're sold.... With no issues! At least the...

    Powertrain Warranty Question

Everyone has a right to buy their favorite car, what fits in your garage, or what you can afford. I usually don't get involved in offering advice as no matter what you say if it was intended to help, people will take exception. But, I'll stretch my rule by saying, stay away from turbo vehicles...

2014 Challenger long term review: Absolutely terrible.

Thank you for describing all the reasons I'll never buy a Dodge/Ram/Fiat product. Consumers and JD Powers have given the Challenger much improved marked in the last 2 years as the newer generation of RAM. The MOPARS of the 60-early 70's were admirable. I owned 3 in that period without issues. My...

    Reusing Filters

You must be of Scottish decent. I can't believe anyone would take a chance re-using a filter. Way too many things could go wrong. For one, the oil flow will be more restrictive from contaminants (And washing won't get it out), second the gasket might leak or blow out resulting in serious engine...

    Nissan Rogue 2024

The Forester came with Ecopia tires, nitrogen filled. Most models of the Impreza come with the 2L engine vs. the 2.5L in the Forester. But, if you have the Crosstrek Limited, it's equipped with the 2.5. Difference could be lots of things, mostly driving style. My wife and I are very efficient...

    Nissan Rogue 2024

I've been a Nissan fan for many years, and owned eight. But, upon seeing, reading , and talking to mechanics about about the new Rogue, simply backed off. A number of writers and testers for various entities as J.D. Powers, and Consumers really down graded the new engines reliability and...

OEM NGK Iridium Spark Plugs replaced @ 54,000 miles on '16 KIA Forte - How do they look?

General rule, "Not broke, don't fix it". Things can go wrong, and I first hand had that experience. It's like making extra work (and expense) for yourself. Tip; loosen plugs, then screw them in place only slightly tightened. Start the engine, rev. Shut engine off then carefully remove the plugs...

New To Me...a car I never wanted.

I assume it is equipped with GM's venerable 3.8L? The only issue I've heard about (from family member owners) is the tendency of the dash to warp/crack from the sun exposure in southern climates. This can be eliminated with an inexpensive "Dash Mat" to keep the sun off the dash. It's an...

    3,000 Mile Oil Change

Living living in Tucson where the weather is extremely hot. Hwy temps can run 120+F and all the desert dust which gets into everything, I change oil every 3,700 M. I would anyway. It's just not that much $$ to worry about it if you're doing it yourself.

    No more Super Tech MP?

Do what you want, but I've pulled some these filters apart in the past and seen the filter elements collapsed. At that point they usually leak. I am looking for filters that have tests results for consistency in construction. I've noted many don't have a bypass valve. The medal jacket on many...

    No more Super Tech MP?

There's "NO WAY" I would use these as the filter is just as important as the oil. Stick with the factory filter or a premium filter like K & N. Many of these cheap filter are poorly constructed and do NOT have a bypass valve.

    6-month oil changes?

I've had sports cars/collector cars for many years and follow a similar regimen. Most car manufacturers recommend 6 month oil change due to acids, etc. that are in the oil that can etch bearing surfaces. If it bothers you do an oil analysis next time and see what comes up. If you own a $50-60K...

Wife thinks next vehicle should be an EV.

EV aren't a bad choice for a town car. That's if you have a safe place to park it as there's a big business in selling stolen charging cords. In Tucson recently some was cutting the cords. Life in the SW required a hybrid, or fossil, LP, E85 type of car if you're one to take long trips and...

2021 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid - 4,600 miles HPL No VII 5w20

This exactly why I stick to 4K M oil change. I've seen a lot of people with higher fuel Dil. In town or towing/heavy loads in pickups. I ran a popular brand of premium oil in my Toyota 4 cyl. to 8K Miles but I also towed my bass boat a few times. Working that small engine up mountains left the...
